September Musings.

September Musings.

Inspired by Ross Gay's The Book of Delights, where the author documents ordinary, daily, delightful moments in his life, here are my September musings and dare I say - delights :)

  1. 36-hours before I head on vacation. 10 days in Espa?a with my mama. Exploring my maternal lineage, linking to my great-grandparents. Grateful to be at this moment in my life where such gifts are possible.
  2. Design as a Care tool. What if our design strategies encouraged love, care and empathy? Thank you Black in Design for filling my cup + allowing the exploration of this delightul inquiry.
  3. Latine, Latinx, or Latino? That is the question being posed to me and other leaders during #HispanicHeritageMonth. I've been using Latine in my vernacular as it reads more holistically, encompassing. Language & sound matters.
  4. Disciplined disagreement. We need to practice grace while we engage in our goals towards equity & justice; with ourselves and each other.
  5. "It is important for all of us to appreciate where we come from and how that history has shaped us in ways that we might not understand" - Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor
  6. Joy is an inside job. In a world that splits our attention and direction in every which way, making joy a central tenet of your daily habits is key to an engaging, captivating life.
  7. Failing, Exploring & Trying Again in DEI. The need to get it "perfect" every time is a white supremacist tactic to freeze us in inaction. Instead, let's move towards exploration, curiosity and a willingness to try, innovate + allow the process to unfold.?
  8. Collectivist Culture. Collectivist workplace values promote community, shared leadership and decision-making. It may be part of the solution towards more just, equitable work environments.
  9. Ahora by Bomba Estereo on repeat.
  10. Every single thing that touches your life, religious, socially and politically, must be an instrument of your liberation or you must throw it into the ashcan of history.” - Historian & Author John Henrik Clarke

con amor y cari?o,
