September
This summer hasn’t given us the best weather for our time climbing Gold Star Peak, we have spent a number of days with limited visibility under wet and windy conditions.
Yesterday, we were treated with perfect weather for a fun filled day on the mountain with some Alaska Army National Guardsmen (ARNG).
The group has served in the ARNG for a number of years as infantrymen, all have served in combat on active duty in OEF, one is departing soon on yet another deployment.
Our time on the mountain was filled talking about some of the tougher times of service including the combat loss of friends, leaders, and battle buddies. We also discussed the mental, physical, and emotional tolls many Veterans face today both in and out of service.
It’s never an easy topic to talk about, but it’s so incredibly important that we all do so, especially with those that have experienced the exact same trauma, we get it.
September is recognized as National Suicide Prevention Awareness month where we are encouraged to raise awareness of suicide prevention and treatment and to know the risks and warnings associated with it.
The easiest way to do so is to simply reach out and connect.
