September Employee Spotlight with Jhania Kahui

September Employee Spotlight with Jhania Kahui

For the month of September, we sat down with Jhania, a Talent Acquisition Partner here at Easygo!

How did you come to join Easygo?

I wasn’t originally looking when I was approached by the Head of People and Culture about the role at Easygo, two and a half years ago. Happy in my position as an agency recruiter, I was planning to call her back to say I wasn’t interested. But once I read through the job ad, I couldn't help but be intrigued.?

We jumped on a phone call, and by the end of that conversation, I knew I had to be a part of it—and I wanted in! What really stuck with me wasn’t the long list of perks and benefits—many (and more) of which we still have—but the story of our founders, Ed and Bijan. How they met while playing Runescape, and fuelled by their passion, turned their love of gaming into something bigger. The story of how, together with a small group of friends, they built Stake, the world’s largest crypto casino. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?

The business was also scaling very quickly, going from 20 people pre-COVID to over 90 at that time, and they had big plans to keep that momentum going. That’s why Easygo was looking for a full-time recruiter to help drive that growth.

After officially interviewing and learning more about the role, the company, its products, and its people, I knew one thing was certain, I wanted that job, and I was going to get it! The company’s ambitious plans and its status as a disruptor in the industry resonated with me. I was already envisioning myself at Easygo, and not getting the job would have been devastating—I couldn’t have been more bought in!

I was lucky enough to receive an offer on the same day, and just two weeks later, I walked through the doors of Easygo as the 97th employee. It’s been non-stop recruitment since then and I’m thankful every day that I called back!

What does your role entail?

I’ve been fortunate enough to recruit for almost every department at Easygo, but as the Talent team grows, I now focus on recruiting for the Legal & Compliance, Finance, and Acquisition Marketing departments.?

What this looks like in my role is managing the full recruitment life cycle for these departments—from sourcing and screening candidates to coordinating interviews, providing feedback, and handling offers. I partner closely with our hiring managers to understand their needs and ensure we’re bringing in top talent that aligns with Easygo’s culture and goals. A big part of my role is educating candidates about us and our brands. People tend to be more familiar with KICK and Stake, but I like to make sure they understand Easygo's relationship with these brands and paint the bigger picture. For that reason, I like to say I am a brand ambassador for Easygo, ensuring candidates get familiar with who we are, how we came to be, and what we stand for. Whether it’s through conversations during the phone interview process or sharing insights about the company, I help candidates connect with our brand and understand why Easygo is an incredible place to work.

How has this role helped you grow in your career?

Over the past 12 months, I have spearheaded several projects aimed at maturing our talent function. This involves not just the foundational work of building and documenting our recruitment processes but also developing a range of templates and guides to streamline our operations.

By focusing on these improvements, my goal has been to enhance our efficiency and ensure we can scale effectively as we grow. I take pride in these efforts because they contribute to a more organised recruitment process and ultimately lead to a better candidate experience. My passion for creating a positive journey for candidates drives me to continuously seek ways to elevate our recruitment practices. These enhancements not only support our current needs but also lay the groundwork for future success as we expand our team and capabilities. Through this work, I have truly fallen in love with process improvement and developed a keen eye for it. A big shout-out to my manager, Harry, who greenlights 99% of my project proposals and allows me to run with them. His support has been instrumental in my growth and professional development.

What's your favourite thing about working in the office?

Given the fast-paced nature of our industry and how collaborative we are, we've established that the best way for us to work is together, which is why we’re predominantly office-based. And honestly, there’s so much to love about being in the office! We’re truly spoiled with daily catered breakfasts that cater to almost all dietary requirements. The menu changes daily, featuring a great mix of sweet and savoury bites. Arguably better than that, we have Lily and Luke, our amazing in-house baristas, that's right, Easygo has its own cafe! You can get almost any drink you’d order from your local café, only here - the drinks are free!

We also have fully stocked drink fridges and snack shelves on all seven levels of our office (yes seven, we are bursting at the seams) Plus, our state-of-the-art end-of-trip facilities could easily rival those of a boutique hotel, making it hard not to love our space. It also helps that our dress code is more casual than smart casual—no need to stress over what to wear!

But honestly, while the free food and drinks are fantastic, my favourite part about working here has to be the people and their passion for our products. The building hums with energy because everyone loves what they do, and you can feel that in the air.

Easygo Christmas Party

What do you think sets Easygo apart from other companies?

What really sets Easygo apart is the fantastic growth opportunities we offer. As we continue to establish different verticals within each business unit, there are plenty of chances for our team members to step into new roles and take on exciting and new responsibilities. We’re moving away from the startup phase and into the scale-up phase of our growth, which means there’s a lot happening!

We genuinely reward hard work by allowing people to take on more responsibility if they’re interested and we encourage our people to work on projects they’re truly passionate about. When we look at our C-suite, the majority of them were hired in the first roles of their kind to establish their departments, and as the company grew, so did their careers, paving the way for others to follow. This creates a ripple effect for everyone in the team, providing inspiration and motivation for those who come after. From a recruitment perspective, what truly makes Easygo different is our commitment to creating a positive experience for every candidate, not just the ones who land the job. We understand that most candidates who apply won’t be hired, but we still want each person to leave with a great impression of Easygo. We do this by providing detailed feedback throughout the process and ensuring every applicant gets a response, as part of our commitment to the Circle Back initiative. Our goal is for people to always have great things to say about Easygo, even if they don’t get the job. We recognise the effort it takes to apply for a role, and we aim to support candidates at every stage of the recruitment process.

F1 with Kick!

What's your particular team culture like? And what fun things do you do as a team?

Our People and Culture team consists of four key areas: HR, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, and Workplace Experience. Because we’re all about the people (it's in the name, after all!), our team culture is lively and collaborative. We love sharing and bouncing ideas off of each other and are focused on driving outcomes for the business.

When it comes to having fun, we take full advantage of Easygo's team-building budgets! Each team gets to decide how they want to use theirs. Some teams go for Airbnb weekends, while others hit the go-kart tracks or enjoy wine tours. For us, crafting followed by a nice dinner is our go-to. Recently, we had so much fun with acrylic paint pouring and then enjoyed dinner at Lucy Lius. The team event before that, we tried our hand at pottery and wrapped up the day at a pub, and the one before that, we had a lovely lunch on a boat cruising up the Yarra River. We always look forward to our team events and try to plan one each quarter—it’s definitely a highlight for us!

What are you most proud of?

I’m really proud of watching the people I’ve helped hire delve into their new roles with passion and enthusiasm. As a recruiter, we’re often likened to matchmakers, and I believe that goes beyond just finding the best candidate for the role. It’s about aligning candidates' career goals with positions that truly excite them. When we bring in people who see their new job as their dream role or who are genuinely in love with our industry, it’s a match made in heaven! I always say you can’t pay people to care, but when you find that perfect match—where their passion aligns with their role—it’s truly rewarding. It’s what makes our work here so special. Having hired over 160 people (we estimated around 180 a while back, but I’ve had to stop counting, lol), it’s been incredible to watch many of them grow and get promoted, with some even stepping into head-of roles! I love seeing them recognised for their hard work and achievements. It really drives home the impact we have in shaping careers here at Easygo.

Always looking to improve!
