The September Edition

The September Edition

Welcome to September’s edition. This month we explore the work of Yayoi Kusama’s work at her latest major exhibition in Manchester - You, Me And The Balloons. We continue our drive for sustainability by looking at our latest work for Branston and we announce our latest client win. And finally… there’s been a wedding!

5 Star Beans For Your Toast

When our rebrand of Branston Beans was unveiled in August last year, unfortunately the client’s supply chain had not caught up with our original proposal to rid the multipacks of plastic and be replaced with 100% recyclable card. 11 Months later we were given the nod to ‘send to print’ the artwork for our card multipacks and soon after they began to appear in-store.The beauty of this solution is two-fold. Firstly, it makes all the packaging 100% recyclable, from the cans to the labels to the multipack outer. Secondly, these multipacks act as a beacons in-store and could be considered little pieces of advertising collateral on-shelf. Given that Branston’s key objectives were around driving awareness and trial by disrupting the “grab and go” shopper mentality, we think our solution not only met that specific objective but it also took a fair bit of plastic out of the recycling conundrum. The (Retro) Heart of the Home

We are delighted to announce we are working with CDA Appliances, part of the Amica Group who are a European leader in white goods. Our first project with CDA will be to help develop and promote their Retro Cooling Range. With a reputation for innovation (CDA were the first to introduce wine coolers to the UK) we’re looking forward to not only the work on Retro Cooling but also the CDA brand itself.

Yayoi Kusama: You, Me and The Balloons

We recently visited a major exhibition of Yayoi Kusama’s spectacular inflatable sculptures at Factory International, Manchester. Yayoi Kusama - You, Me and the Balloons showcases over three decades of the renowned Japanese artist’s psychedelic, colour saturated artworks – including giant dolls, spectacular tentacled landscapes and a vast constellation of polka-dot spheres. The installation takes full advantage of this vast warehouse space and is Kusama’s largest ever immersive environment, featuring works over 10 metres tall. At 94 years old, Yayoi Kusama is now a global phenomenon and, as huge fans of Kusama’s surreal world of dots and pumpkins, we thoroughly recommend experiencing her kaleidoscopic universe first-hand.?

A TBN Wedding!

Emma, one of our Project Managers here at TBN, tied the knot last month. The big day was a fantastic success with everything thankfully going to plan… including the surprise firework display! Huge congratulations to them both.

Every Picture Tells A Story

Senior Designer, Geoff, is incredibly well travelled and well observed, and shares his thoughts on the merits of still producing physical items like the 50+ travel books… As Rod Stewart once sang, “Every picture tells a story”, and he was spot on in his song writing. When photography went the way of vinyl and became a mostly digitally stored medium, I decided to keep a tactile, physical record of my day-to-day life – call it a visual diary of sorts. I captured holidays, mundane days, snowy days, and long lazy lunch days. They say looking back isn’t that helpful but there’s nothing wrong with a healthy dollop of nostalgia and record keeping. Fifty to Sixty books in, each averaging approx. 120pp I am still crafting them, refining them, and getting them printed to make sure I have a more permanent, physical record of my days. I’d like to think I’m a little bit like Rod – still churning them out…

See you next month!
