Summer does fly by... ready or not...every year! School has begun, football is a main topic, and Starbucks (bless them,) constantly reminds us about that pumpkin spice stuff. Face it... the arrival of September means the rest of the year is about to flash by and we'll be singing Auld Lang Syne and following the '100 Top Songs Countdown of 2023' before we know it. So, are you ready?

LINKEDIN TIPS AND MORE

TIP 1 - When you see a Follow button instead of Connect on a profile

That is a Premium Member who has chosen to use the Creator Mode, which offers additional tools to grow their network, such as the ability to publish Newsletters, conduct LinkedIn Live and LinkedIn Audio events, use hashtags, etc. Often, they are growing their network to become an influencer. Follow them to receive their posts/content on your Home Page feed. To Connect with them, tap More to the right of Follow, choose Connect, and always personalize your invitation for a more positive result.

TIP 2 - What to do after Connecting

When done properly, building relationships takes time. Do you have a strategy that follows once you've connected on LinkedIn? Acknowledge each new Connection with a brief thank you or voice message (not a sales pitch, please,) and then what? Engage! Check their Activity - visit their profile, scroll to their Activity, and then:

React Choose to indicate Like, Celebrate, Support, Love, Insightful, or Funny on a post of interest. This takes less than one second to do.

Comment when you can add value to help both you and the post

initiator. The LI algorithm loves and 'rewards' engagement by pushing

the post further into the network for additional visibility. NOTE: Use

more than 4 words when you Comment - write a sentence.

DM to share a post, article, newsletter, or other link that the person may find useful or of interest.

TIP 3 - You've Connected and acknowledged them, now what?

Arrange a 'get to know you' call or Zoom. Be strategic with whom you choose to spend time. Have a set length of time and clarity of purpose. You're being professional/respectful of one another's time. Our length is 30 minutes, sharing the time to learn more about the person and what they do. You're starting the process of qualifying - you are not yet at the selling stage. Your best sales will be realized when you're focused on building the relationship, not closing a sale! Be sincere and show an interest in them as a Connection - not a dollar sign. Remember: People do business with those they know, like, and trust. Be patient!

TIP 4 - Local Connections are special

Because it's easy to arrange an IRL occasion. Phone calls and Zooms are great, but the ability to take the relationship to the next level with an in-person (in real life,) face-to-face can't be beat! Our favorite tip here is simple: Invite the Connection to the next local networking event you'll attend and make it your mission to introduce them to as many attendees as possible. It's simply a kind thing to do and this action will always come back to you, ten-fold. Or arrange to meet for morning coffee or, time permitting and value established, meet (and treat them,) for lunch!

I always look forward to your Newsletters, Debbie. They are "chock full" of great tips and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! One clarification I thought I would mention... in Tip 1 it states "That is a Premium Member who has chosen to use the Creator Mode". I don't think you have to be a Premium Member in order to turn on Creator Mode and switch to the "Follow" button. And, the pop girl's band is Spice Girls. Thanks for the bonus points! ?? ??
