As we are days away from a new month, I wanted to share with you September’s book discussed in our Love Professional's Book Club. In the modern online dating ritual, swiping reigns supreme. I have noticed more and more clients recently, coming to me with the fear that they may have swiped right past their person. Though technology can put a wide array of potential matches at our fingertips, I try to reassure my clients by redirecting their focus towards tried and tested real time dating etiquette. ?In her book “How to Not Die Alone,” author Logan Ury, ?walks readers through her plan toward becoming a more discerning and intentional dater.
Ury groups frustrated daters into three categories; each has their own unique challenges.
Category 1- The Romanticizer: Gets caught up in the fairytale of how their love story will play out.
Category 2- The Maximizer: Is a swipe addict with a checklist of qualities for their next best match.
Category 3- The Hesitater has trouble getting started in dating, or has a million reasons why now is not the time to find love.
After clearly defining these 3 categories, the author discusses best practices when it comes to finding the one, and potential behaviors to avoid... She spells out eight questions daters should ask after they meet someone. Ury says these questions can help people get in touch with how a particular date made them feel. She also discusses the importance of staying away from a "checklist" dating mentality. If you are curious to know more about how you fit into one of the aforementioned categories—and how to break out of those bad habits-- this book is a must read.
