New: Individuals with an emergency department (ED) visit for substance-induced psychosis or substance use without psychosis were at increased risk of developing schizophrenia spectrum disorder within 3 years relative to the general population. These findings suggest that people who present to the ED for substance use, with or without psychosis, are at increased risk of developing schizophrenia spectrum disorder.
New: Research calls for improved mental healthcare after police shootings. This study found that there was a 3-fold increase in long-term annual health care costs for patients surviving a police shooting compared with other mechanisms of injury. Most of the increased costs were due to psychiatric care.
Research Rewind: People who received an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy had greater protection against Delta and Omicron variants and passed on immunity to their infants through the transfer of antibodies.
