September 2024 - What's Happening at WYS

September is Suicide Prevention Month

As September marks Suicide Prevention Month, Western Youth Services is dedicated to raising awareness and promoting vital conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.

Did you know that suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10-24 in the United States (National Institute of Mental Health, 2024)? This emphasizes the importance of our collective efforts to support young people and advocate for mental health awareness.

We invite you to read our latest blog post titled Uniting for Hope: Suicide Prevention Month and WYS Initiatives. This blog highlights our commitment to suicide prevention and promotes awareness and support during this important month. Key points covered include:

  • Understanding the importance of suicide prevention and its impact on individuals and communities, including the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the role of resilience in mitigating suicide risk.
  • Western Youth Services' initiatives in crisis intervention, counseling and therapy, and community outreach, all aimed at supporting mental health and preventing suicide.
  • Information about the no-cost Suicide Prevention for Teachers training program available through the RESET Toolbox, which empowers educators to recognize signs of distress and intervene effectively.

We invite you to read the full post here to learn more about how you can get involved in Suicide Prevention Month and support our mission to prevent suicide and promote mental wellness. Thank you for your ongoing support in raising awareness and promoting hope during Suicide Prevention Month.
