The Royal Irish Academy 2024-28 Strategic Plan
We are excited to share the Strategic Plan 2024-28 which sets out the ambitions and priorities of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) for the next five years to increase our influence for a more sustainable and inclusive future.
Our plan is organised around our strategic priorities to recognise and nurture excellence; to create, convene and share knowledge for the public good; to preserve and promote Irish cultural heritage and language; and to build a sustainable Royal Irish Academy.
eGovernment Award 2024 Winner
The RIA is proud to announce that the Digital Repository of Ireland's (DRI) Community Archive Scheme was awarded an Ireland eGovernment Award 2024 in the Open Data Category.
Launched in 2019, the scheme offers free DRI Associate Membership and digital preservation training to under-resourced archivists and community groups. It aims to acknowledge, empore and support community archivists in curating, preserving and sharing their stories in an open access format.
RIA and Ibec release?new Hamilton Day podcast
To celebrate the fifth year of our partnership with Ibec for our annual Hamilton Day celebration, we invited three special guests?to record an episode of the 'Ibec Responds' podcast in the Royal Irish Academy.
2004 Hamilton Prize in Mathematics winner, Norma Bargary,?Martin Curley MRIA and Ibec CEO, Danny McCoy, discussed?the origins of Hamilton Day, Ireland's mathematic heritage,?and?the importance of supporting STEM education for the future of business.

Conversations on Britishness and Irishness: Dame Louise Richardson and Richard English
Together with the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice (Queen’s University Belfast) and the?Keough-Naughton Institute for?Irish Studies (University of Notre Dame), the Royal Irish Academy initiated the Conversations on Britishness and Irishness series in 2023, as a way of facilitating open and respectful discussion about cultural and political identities in and relating to Ireland.

2024 Hamilton Lecture
The Royal Irish Academy is pleased to announce that the 2024 Hamilton Lecture will be delivered by Laura DeMarco, Professor of Mathematics at Harvard University on Wednesday, 16 October at 6pm.
Professor DeMarco's lecture, 'The geometry and algebra of the Mandelbrot set' will explore the many mathematical ideas that have been put to work on the Mandelbrot set, from analysis and potential theory to algebra and number theory.?

The Library is pleased to share the new Turning the Pages solution for one of the oldest surviving manuscripts in Ireland: The Cathach of St. Columba (MS 12 R 33). Using high quality images provided by Irish Script on Screen (ISOS), a digital copy of the manuscript allows viewers to turn through the pages and study it in detail.
This positive step towards improving accessibility to our collections provides readers with the opportunity to explore one of the Academy’s most well-known treasures.
Nowlan Grants
The Royal Irish Academy (RIA) is thrilled to share three projects funded under this year's Nowlan Grant scheme.?The total funding commitment for the scheme stands at €27,138 and the RIA is thankful for the kind bequest of the late Prof Kevin B Nowlan which led to the establishment of this grant scheme.?
