This month, there are two major awareness campaigns taking place in the sustainability space, which ESGmark? member Green Glamour perfectly encapsulates: Secondhand September and Zero Waste Week.

GreenGlamour is a sustainable rental e-commerce platform which primarily curates women’s high-end clothing.

In an industry notorious for waste and pollution, GreenGlamour was founded to disrupt the way the fashion world has been operating by enabling everyone to rent all types of fashion without compromising on quality or sustainability.

By choosing a rental model, GreenGlamour makes it easy and accessible to spoil yourself while reducing the amount of unused clothing that ends up in landfill. It doesn't stop there, though - they are committed to embedding sustainable principles throughout their packaging, delivery, and cleaning processes too. Zero Waste Week is an annual campaign taking place in the first full week of September to encourage individuals, communities, and businesses to adopt more sustainable lifestyle and consumption habits by reducing waste and reusing resources.

Unsustainable use of the world’s resources is the primary force behind the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity and nature loss, and pollution. It is clear that we must shift from overconsumption to more conscious, sustainable consumption habits. By shifting away from a "take, make, dispose" mindset and instead embracing circular economy principles by reusing, repurposing, repairing, and recycling, you can save money while helping to conserve resources, minimise pollution, and reduce landfill waste.

Reducing waste is crucial for meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Everyone can take action to adopt a low-waste lifestyle, and supporting businesses with processes in place to help keep materials out of landfill will go a long way to improving your environmental impact.

International Equal Pay Day, observed on September 18th, highlights the ongoing global efforts to ensure equal pay for work of equal value.

But what exactly is 'equal work'?

'Equal work' doesn't necessarily refer to identical jobs. It encompasses roles that require comparable skills and responsibilities, or where the overall value of the work is equivalent.

Differences in pay for similar jobs can be justified in certain cases, such as varying qualifications among employees or differing costs of living based on location.

What truly matters is that gender should never influence pay differences.

Did you know:

  • Women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn for work of equal value.
  • It is estimated that only 28% of women employed worldwide get paid maternity leave.
  • Globally, women represent nearly 65% of people above retirement age without any regular pension.

Our quick guide and template for implementing a?Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Policy?includes guidance on ensuring equal pay for equal work in your organisation. These can be found in our Members Library, which contains guides and templates to help organisations instil fair employment practices and a thriving company culture.
