STO research team uses drones to search for improvised explosive devices

In June, an STO research team began testing the use of sensor-equipped drones to detect improvised explosive devices (IEDs), as part of ongoing work to protect soldiers from a persistent threat on the battlefield. A new method for detecting submarine periscopes

An STO research team has developed new approaches to detect and identify submarine periscopes from high altitudes, potentially enabling militaries to cover wider areas during intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) maritime operations.?

Finland hosts Science and Technology Board meeting in Helsinki

The NATO Science and Technology Board, the STO's governing body, held its fall 2023 meeting in Helsinki this month, marking the first major NATO committee held in Finland since it joined the Alliance in April. The meeting was hosted by the Puolustusvoimat - F?rsvarsmakten - Finnish Defence Forces and chaired by Dr Bryan Wells, NATO Chief Scientist.

  • The next International Conference on Military Communications and Information Systems (ICMCIS) will be held on 23-24 April 2024 in Koblenz, Germany. Find the call for papers here; and be sure to follow the ICMCIS LinkedIn page for future updates.
