What are the responsibilities of a first aider?

A first aider's duties include securing the accident scene, removing individuals from danger, and quickly alerting emergency services, depending on the situation. Providing care to the injured, including life-saving measures such as resuscitation or placing someone in the recovery position, is also part of the role. In Germany, it’s important to note that everyone is legally obligated to provide first aid if they witness an emergency.

How long have you been a first aider?

I completed my first aid training in 2022. Now that two years have passed, I had the opportunity to attend a refresher course this year. This is incredibly important as vital knowledge can easily fade over time.

What motivated you to become a first aider?

The thought of not being able to help someone in an emergency made me uneasy. The first and only first aid course I had attended was many years ago when I obtained my driving licence – unfortunately, I retained very little of that knowledge. Whether among family and friends, at the office, or on the street – emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere, and I want to be prepared.

?Have you ever experienced an emergency where you had to provide first aid?

I’m incredibly glad to say: NO ??

Would you recommend first aid training?

Absolutely YES! Any one of us could need help one day. The more people who know how to respond in an emergency, the greater the chance of saving lives. For me, first aid is an essential part of general education, and it also provides a great sense of security.
