In Delaware, New Castle County Executive Matthew Meyer secured the Democratic nomination for Governor while current State Senator Sarah McBride made history by clinching the nomination for Delaware’s at-large congressional district. In New Hampshire, former Manchester mayor and NewDEAL alum Joyce Craig emerged victorious in her gubernatorial primary, advancing to the general election in what is being called “the most competitive governor's race in the nation.”

  • Meanwhile, NewDEALers across Delaware, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island cruised to reelection for county-level and legislative seats.

Debate Reaction: It’s Time to Turn the Page?

This week's debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump illuminated a stark contrast.? NewDEAL CEO Debbie Cox Bultan credited Harris for emphasizing her “pragmatic vision for leading our nation into the future,” as opposed to Trump, “who is divisive and disparaging, fueled by grievances, and will only take our nation back into chaos.”

  • As her statement concluded, “Vice President Harris made it clear that she is about “lifting people up and not beating people down. She represents the new generation of leadership that will move our nation forward.”

Ideas Worth Stealing

DEMOCRACY | Arizona, Michigan, and New Mexico: Secretaries of State Adrian Fontes , Jocelyn Benson , and Maggie Toulouse Oliver testified before the House Administration Committee this week to call on the federal government to provide more support, including increased funding, for election administration and security. The secretaries highlighted the specific need to expand protections for election workers, citing their own personal experiences with intimidation and harassment in the wake of the 2020 election.?

AFFORDABLE HOUSING | Virginia: Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney has announced that the city is exceeding its affordable housing goals as a result of its new performance grants, which incentivize developers to create low-price units for residents. The housing affordability crisis was declared in April 2023, and then, in October, the city announced it was partnering with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to invest millions in creating solutions, including through the grant program.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE | California: Senator Josh Becker is championing several bills to provide guardrails for the successful deployment of AI, offering a model for other states as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of the emerging technology. If enacted, his bills would provide oversight of AI-driven healthcare coverage decisions, aiming to prevent wrongful denials of care, and would disclose the use of AI in healthcare communications.

42 state attorneys general demand a Surgeon General warning label for social media apps | CNN

The Attorneys General in forty-two states, including NewDEALers Aaron D. Ford in Nevada and Joshua Stein in North Carolina, came together to sign a letter requesting that Congress require the U.S Surgeon General to place warning labels on social media apps to help curtail addiction and a mental health crisis among young adults. They write that, while states have taken legal action against companies in some cases, they also need support from Washington.??
