Separation Process of Chalcopyrite, Galenite, Sphalerite and Pyrite
In modern industry and daily life, copper, plumbum and zinc have a wide range of application and demand. They have an important and irreplaceable position in electric, marine, aviation, communication, petrochemicals, household appliances, high-energy.
1. The Separation of Chalcopyrite and Pyrite
Method
It depends on the ore property, including the following two methods:
1.1 Preferential Flotation: This method is suitable for dense lump ores. Under relatively coarse fineness, chalcopyrite and pyrite can be fully dissociated, and separated.
Separation Turn: chalcopyrite first, pyrite second.
1.2 Bulk Flotation: This method is suitable for the combination of chalcopyrite and pyrite in the ore. The size of the coalition of chalcopyrite and pyrite is some coarse. While the particle size of the monomer is fine, the qualified tailing is separated by bulk flotation, then the mixed concentrate of pyrite and chalcopyrite will be regrained and separated.
Condition: The collector of chalcopyrite is xanthate or black catching agent. Lime is the pH regulator and the inhibitor of iron mineral, when necessary, cyanide will be used as the auxiliary inhibitor. When only lime is used as inhibitor, sulphuric acid and sodium carbonate can be used as activator. When cyanide is used as the auxiliary inhibitor, Sulphuric acid and copper sulphate need to be used as activators.
2. The Separation of Galenite and Sphalerite
When separating the galenite and sphalerite, galenite is always enriched at first and then sphalerite will be enriched.
In the separation of galenite and sphalerite, Xanthate or black catching agent is usually used as collector. And NaCN,KCN, ZnSO4, Na2OS3, Na2S2O3 are always be used as inhibitors. And copper sulphate always is used as activator.
3. The Separation of Chalcopyrite and Sphalerite

4. The Separation of Chalcopyrite and Galenite
Normally, the separation of this type of ore is to get the mixed concentrate of chalcopyrite and galenite at first, then removing the flotation agent, and using preferential flotation to get concentrate of galenite or chalcopyrite at last.
5. The Separation of Sphalerite and Pyrite
When separating the sphalerite and pyrite, sphalerite is always enriched at first and then pyrite will be enriched.

6 年I had operated a lead - zinc - copper - pyrite flotation plant in India. Graphite was associated mineral with other majot gangue as dolomite and silica. We were first floating off graphite by just use of frother and from the tailings of this, bulk concentrates of lead and copper were floated depressing zinc . Then lead and copper were separated by differential flotation by use of dichromates. Zinc was separated as float in the zinc circuit by depressing pyrite and other gangue minerals.
