SEO is dying: How can we adapt?

SEO is not yet dead, but the end is inevitable. Technologies are evolving, and so too are our content consumption habits. Metaverse, Search Chats, or something else will change the world because nothing is eternal.?
Jeff Bezos famously said, "Amazon will go bankrupt. If you look at large companies, their lifespans tend to be 30-plus years, not a hundred-plus years."?
SEO doesn't belong to one company, but Google still has 91,9% of all search traffic, which is more than Amazon has in the niche of selling eCommerce products.?
Let’s think back 30 years to 1993. Do you remember JumpStation? Probably not – but it was the first engine mechanism that appeared on the web. Today, this company doesn't exist, and modern technologies for crawling and ranking websites are quite different and more sophisticated.?
The average lifespan of 30-plus years is closing in on SEO, but we still have time – SEO keeps growing. Google has 8.5 billion searches per day, more than people on the planet.?
Most people, including me, prefer old habits rather than learning how something new works, even if it’s better and faster. So SEO will not be dropped in a short time. It takes years to change these habits.?
We’re already seeing search habits changing. Almost 40% of Gen Z prefer searching on TikTok or Instagram instead of Google. I often see my son watching TikTok videos on improving soccer dribbling or doing homework fast.?
Why Is It a Good Idea to Learn SEO?
Today, SEO brings more traffic than any other channel. The number of searches keeps growing. Ignoring this channel is a big mistake; we need to adapt to new features and technologies.?
Bing is adding ChatGPT to its search, and Google and Baidu have similar goals. Let's imagine that these new search chats will change our habits of consuming content.?
Content creators often get less traffic because of featured snippets and other search elements that share their data on the search. More than 50% of all searches end without clicks.?
Search chats will increase the percentage of searches without clicks because these chats rewrite the existing content. So how should content creators plan to get ahead of this issue?
SEO Is Not Only for Google Ranking
SEO teaches us that high-quality content is the #1 ranking factor, and has been since the beginning of SEO. For example, websites might have many relevant authoritative backlinks and excellent metrics to satisfy other algorithms, but search engines don't rank low or medium-quality content.?

Bill Gates famously said in 1996, "Content is king." But, of course, he didn't say anything about SEO then because yellow pages were much more popular than search engines.?
High-quality content is for all marketing channels and users who consume it. If SEO is dead, then high-quality content will work through other channels or word-of-mouth.?
Technical Optimization
We know that 53% of people click away from websites on mobile if it loads for more than three seconds, and 8-20% of customers leave websites for each loading second. Technical SEO is not only for the Google ranking; it's more for users who are impatient to get results.?
Amazon invests crazy money to increase speed as much as possible. That is why you can see all Amazon pages immediately if your internet connection is fast.?
Keyword Research
Finding relevant keywords helps to create a content plan, but it's also not only for SEO. Keywords are related to questions that people use to find answers or solutions.?
Keyword research will be obsolete for the sake of adding keywords to content, but not obsolete for creating a content plan. I still use keyword research for social media, where looking at content using keywords is less popular than checking recommendations on the feed.?
Link Building
Links fuel SEO results, but they also bring traffic and recognition. Instead of creating a hundred links, earn one or two but with real traffic. Quality over quantity.?
Spend time analyzing all your link-building efforts and finding links that bring traffic, then switch your attention to acquiring these links. Many content creators that get a million in traffic don't care about links because they focus on creating link-worthy content: studies, simple tools, valuable articles, etc.?
Conclusion
SEO will be dead soon. That’s for certain. But SEO methods will live much longer and help adapt quickly to a new format. Experience in creating and promoting content will help us adjust to a new format, whatever technologies bring us. Newbies need the experience to compete with specialists who have it with other forms.??
That is why I created my SEO course with 20+ well-known top tutors who teach about developing high-quality content, technical optimization, keyword research, and modern white hat link building.?
