SEO In Crisis, Microplastics… & Online Marketing

It's the beginning of summer for us and certainly feels like it in Vermont. Everything is in bloom, gardens are planted and I'm avoiding it all for my allergies.?

Summer is usually a time of relaxation and slow business, but the SEO world is going nuts. Between the fall-out and continued conversations on the leaked Google algorithm and the constantly changing Generative AI in search results, people don't know what to do. Leaders in the industry are trying to preach calm and order, but the reality is much different.

I think we can expect to see very variable search results and traffic throughout the summer. Google is testing in ways it hasn't for a very long time with Gemini and when, what and where to show it. Then you add in people's behaviors and we will have to see how much this current Generative AI answers changes people's behaviors long-term. There was certainly a short burst of activity and skew away from clicking through to websites, but that trend is going back some lately.?I know, personally, I asked Gemini to calculate calories burned swimming for me with pretty specific details and it gave me a number 10X what it should have been. This has led me to double checking the answers I get more often on actual sites and with other AI tools.?

We are also working on a report on the Fortune 1000 company's presence in search and Wikipedia (if you want a copy when it comes out, let me know!). And while doing the research Google changed whether it showed sources and even?whether AI showed up at all for branded search terms- and this was in a couple weeks.??
