Senwes’ DNA speaks of excellence through leadership

On 16 October 2022, corporate South Africa will be observing Bosses’ Day, and in light of the important role that leadership – and more so, excellence in leadership plays in success and sustainability, it is only fitting to focus on Senwes’ leadership philosophy.?

This philosophy sees our agri-business blazing a trail of excellence throughout the industry, in terms of best practice, innovation, and service delivery.?

?But what do we mean when we talk about leadership??

Peter Drucker, the leading authority in management thinking, defined leadership as follows: "Leadership is the lifting of a man's vision to higher sights, the raising of a man's performance to a higher standard, the building of a man's personality beyond its normal limitations." This definition speaks directly to Senwes’ leadership philosophy, namely to not be short-sighted, but rather position oneself to play the long game; be grateful, but never satisfied, and consistently enable our people to push the boundaries of what is attainable.

Because leadership is?influence on a human level, we should be very aware to distinguish between WHAT we do, HOW we do it, and WHY we are doing it.

The?WHAT?tells us about our day-to-day activities, the?HOW?is about the methods we use to accomplish our day-to-day, but the?WHY?provides purpose and motivation to fuel our efforts. It’s on the WHY level that leadership has its biggest impact, therefore, if we?manage what we measure, we should not only include the WHAT but focus on the HOW and the WHY as well. It combines two powerful aspects of being a?trusted?leader or influencer, namely?what we do (competence) and?what we are (character).?
