Be sensitive when you create content for social media

Hello there! I’m Natchi Lazarus. And today I want to talk to you about matching your social media goal and your timelines with what is going on around you and your season. In chapter 6 of The Connected Church, my book, I talk about how to create timelines and how to create content based on seasons, and matching your goals with that.

The COVID Season & its uniqueness

So right now in this season, many countries are still in lockdown, some of them are in ‘unlock’ mode (as they call it) they are being released. And there’s a lot going on in this world, there are cyclones and all sorts of things simultaneously happening. And political situation around the world is not very encouraging and not very comfortable in many nations. At this time when you plan your social media content and when you match it with your goal, be very sensitive to these things. Because social media is social and it’s public. People can look at your content at any time and they are looking at it in different mindsets, different situations. So, look at your audience. Here is what I would suggest you do.

No #1: The mindset of your audience

You look at your audience and focus on two things. One is their mindset. What mindset are your audience in? You need to have clarity about your audience first, that precedes these two points. Have clarity about who you’re reaching and then think about their mindset as they consume the content. Think if you being sensitive to their mindset? Are you being sensitive to their situation? That is one.

No #2: The outcome that you have in mind

The second is what do you want them to do? Because as we’ve been talking about, all your social media content needs to have some kind of a call to action. So you want him to do something… It might be just ‘understanding what you’re saying’, that might be the call to action, but you do need to have a call to action in every piece of content. When you think of that call to action, what is it? Is it something that they can do, instead of this pushing them to do something that they can’t, or making them feel bad that they can’t, what is that you want to achieve as an outcome of your content? Those are the two things you need to keep in mind, the mindset and the outcome. When you think about matching your goals, the timelines with what is going on around the world.

Social media content is not only what you want to do

Because social media content creation is not something that happens in a silo, it’s not something that happens in your boardroom, with your employees or with your ministry partners or with your own agendas there. Social media is about the people. It’s about the society. It’s about what’s happening out there and you trying to be a part of it. It’s all something that we do together, right? You help your audience with, and along side what is going on in their lives.

I just wanted to give you that perspective. I hope that was helpful. I’ll see you next week with another thought from the book. Until then you stay connected, stay blessed and stay safe. God bless you. Bye.
