The 5 Senses of Cape Town

Taste the essence of Cape Town

Taste the ocean in Kalk Bay with freshly caught hake and slap (soft) chips from the harbour in Kalk Bay or Simon's Town. For local favorites, try a Gatsby at Golden Dish, or the fragrant bobotie at Seven Colours Eatery in Bo-Kaap. Explore Cape Town’s award-winning restaurants like FYN and Salsify at the Roundhouse, where chefs draw inspiration from local flavours to create unique and delicate dishes. Enjoy an African Botanical inspired gin-tasting at Hope Distillery. No meal is complete without a glass of Pinotage from one of our famous wine farms.? Cape Town’s flavours reflect its rich culture and heritage.

Cape Town's Soundtrack

As the Noon Day Gun booms over Signal Hill, it’s a reminder of the city’s history echoing across the landscape. Wander through the V&A Waterfront, where the vibrant sounds of a marimba band welcome you into the harbour. Visit Gold Restaurant, where interactive drumming and live African performances bring the city’s rhythm to life. Listen to the playful splashes and chirps of the penguins at Boulders Beach. Cape Town’s soundscape is a dynamic blend of culture and celebration.

Scents of the city

Let the aromas of Cape Town lead your journey. Wander into Atlas Trading Company in Bo-Kaap to smell the exotic spices that have defined Cape Town’s culinary history. At Babylonstoren, step into their farm-to-table bakery, where the scent of freshly baked bread mingles with the earthiness of produce harvested that very day. Breathe in the refreshing fragrance of Fynbos at Kirstenbosch Gardens or the salty air along Chapman’s Peak Drive. For something more personal, craft your own scent at the Kumanov SA Perfume Museum.

Textures of the Mother City

Feel Cape Town’s story in the textures around you. Walk barefoot on the soft sands of Camps Bay Beach or feel the cool, salty spray at Clifton. As you ascend Lion’s Head, feel the rough stone beneath your hands, forging a connection with the city’s natural landscape. For a tactile encounter with history, visit The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, where the industrial charm invites you to explore the blend of past and present. Every touch connects you to the heart of Cape Town.

Cape Town is a Masterpiece

Feast your eyes on Cape Town’s beauty from the summit of one of its 3 peaks, where the city sprawls beneath you, framed by the iconic mountain and coastline. Discover the vibrant street art of Woodstock, a neighbourhood that uses walls as canvases to tell stories of change and creativity. Visit Zeitz MOCAA to explore modern African art. Set sail from Clifton on a yacht, letting Cape Town’s coastline reveal itself from a new angle.

Review of Coy Restaurant

"I had a fantastic dining experience at Coy, the new sister restaurant to Salsify. With its enviable location at the V&A Waterfront, surrounded by yachts, canals, luxury 5-star hotels, and a stunning view of Table Mountain, the setting is simply remarkable. The restaurant's glass and wood “cube” design, paired with its dark, atmospheric interiors, evokes an African safari ambiance.

Coy offers a 7-course tasting menu that honours its African heritage by blending local ingredients and traditional recipes with a modern twist. Some courses also offer choices to accommodate dietary preferences.

My personal highlight was how the chef elevated familiar dishes like koeksisters, pap, ox tongue, potjie, and vetkoek to a fine dining level." - Robin Mcleod
