A sense of humour isn’t optional…

You’ll know as a business owner that occasionally you’re going to make a bit of a wally of yourself.

You’ll try something that seemed like a good idea at the time.

It still seemed like a good idea when you crafted it and it still even seemed good when you posted it and yet you didn’t get the massive response that you anticipated.

Well, I guess it just goes to show that we are all different!

You also need a sense of humour when you have a neurodiverse brain because often, things aren’t always as they seem.??

I’m mostly Dyslexic but left to my own devices, I also have the attention span of a slightly impulsive, bored gnat.??

(Over many years I’ve learned to train my brain to pay far more attention when I’m working but it hasn’t been easy!)

But there’s a HUGE benefit to either having a neurodiverse brain or employing people with such superpowers…

GCHQ, the UK's intelligence, security and cyber agency, is actively on a mission to recruit neurodiverse people because of their ability to spot things that aren’t obvious to the non-neurodiverse brain.

Let me give you an example of the mind of an arch codebreaker …

Most of you see the above picture and read it as ‘Ideal Shopfitters’?

My wife and I don’t though (she also has a wonderfully neurodiverse brain!) we see things differently.

I reckon we’d been married more than 10 years before we had the discussion about that factory up the road from where we used to live.

Why would anyone ever publicise shoplifting?? Especially Ideal Shoplifting?

Neither of us were really sure and it wasn’t until we drove past one day that it dawned on us that perhaps this wasn’t the ring of blatant master criminals that we'd once thought it was!??

(Apologies to all those at Ideal Shopfitters for even doubting you in the first place).

And that, my friends, seems to be the basis of the mind of an arch codebreaker.

Ask yourself why so many neurodiverse people are so successful in so many important roles and I bet you’ll find that the ability to see things differently; coupled with an unshakable determination to succeed are two of the main qualities.?

That and perhaps the ability to have a laugh at yourself from time to time....
