I was grateful to be part of almost 400 participants at the Senior Achievement Summit where I was invited to be a guest speaker. I was asked to share my perspective on building out LinkedIn profiles, crafting an elevator pitch, and creating their own unique Talent Brand. Before I left for the day, I had hundreds of new connections and countless notes of gratitude sharing their thoughts, questions, and take-aways from the event.
The Senior Achievement Summit has been designed to be a rewarding professional development experience for our interns. It allows invited undergraduate interns (rising-seniors), from across the country to expand their network while learning from numerous Liberty Mutual employees.
While I’m on the subject of Interns, did you know Liberty Mutual hosts hundreds of interns throughout the country each summer within various functions? It’s true! During an internship, interns will receive all the tools they require to be successful. This also includes invaluable life skills for on-the-job training, an opportunity to be matched with a mentor from the team, and being part of meaningful/significant work. All this along with management support! Liberty gives them a fantastic learning experience, a strong professional network and exposure to a positive organizational culture with a long history of success. At Liberty Mutual, we hope our interns find an environment that respects their professional goals as well as their personal passions. We want them to feel championed and empowered in a company that values bringing “your whole self “to work every day.
We look for students with strong academic backgrounds, solid project management experience, effective communication skills and analytical capabilities. Since we have internships across many of our business functions, we look to attract students from all majors with a focus on business programs, risk management and of course, we can’t leave out technology.
As I look back at my experience with this group I smile. I met some very sharp, inquisitive, and personable new professionals! During my presentations, I could not help but feel the eagerness and willingness to absorb, learn, and implement what I was sharing. It makes me excited for the future of our company, knowing it’s possible that one or more of these individuals may someday be our future leaders. Rumor has it several of our Senior Executives started at Liberty years ago as interns themselves!
