Send Me Your Favorite Unicorn Job Posting
To all of my followers,
I'm helping recruiters better understand how to reach out to the UX community so they can craft the best possible job descriptions, work with clients to calibrate expectations, and in general up-level their game for finding talent.
I'm asking you to forward to me any job reqs for UX you've run across in the recent past you consider completely ridiculous. See some of the attributes I'm considering when I encounter requests for unicorns.
In the first part of my training, I'll be showcasing three types of "unicorns" often found in job postings
- The Unicorn - the "hybrid" designer/developer - with deep expertise in both sides
- The Rainbow Unicorn- an individual with the entire spectrum of UX talent, from research to HTML, pixel perfect rendering, along with business analysis and branding!
- The Flying Unicorn - All of the above and manages people too!
In all cases, I'm also looking at how many years' experience are expected, and, if posted, the general salary range. When those are out of synch with expectations, we're likely looking at a unicorn!
In the second half of the training, I'll be offering suggestions for how to revise the job reqs to improve their chances of attracting the talent they are seeking.
Regardless of whether your unicorns match mine, I'd appreciate hearing from you. If you could get me any examples (a link to the req would be fine, or you can save it PDF and send it that way) by Aug 25, I'd appreciate it!
Send any and all to leo at phaseiidesign dot com.
Thanks and happy unicorn hunting!

8 å¹´I wrote a parody job posting for a UX Unicorn a year ago, but most designers didn't find it funny. Maybe real life is funnier than fiction -- I look forward to your results. I hope you post the juicy bits! ;-)

8 å¹´I only recently heard of this term, and was actually insanely glad that my type of person who struggles to find this kind of job is actually classified. Sounds like great training! It would be interesting to have a training on what the unicorn should look for too :)
