Semi-conductor smart breakers

Preston Consulting has embarked on the design of so called smart breakers for emerging use in smart factories and homes. We are now looking at manufacture at scale.

The very latest in new generations of SiC devices has allowed a step change in what is possible in the carrying capacity and safe breaking capacity of solid state intelligent circuit breakers.

Couple this with innovative use of robust current measuring technologies and the stage is set for mass production of smart circuit breakers that can be:

• remote controlled - whether IOT or other methods
• programmed for various time / over-current trip levels
• AC and/or DC type breakers
• reporting current they are carrying
• automatic or semi-automatic re-closing ability with hundreds of re-tries
• from 10A to 40A to 100A to 200A carrying capability
• opening in 100uS if necessary
• fault carrying currents in the multi kilo-amp range for several seconds before opening
• fully protected for opening events
