Founder of Garbett & Partners, Tim Garbett takes us on a tour of his business, career and some of his favourite Surrey Homes in the market currently. Let’s unlock the front door...

Past: Having studied engineering and built a few bridges and roads in my early years in Devon, decided a fresh direction beckoned. Architecture and engineering drawing were my ‘prime scholastic accolades’ when I had a young eager brain and drawn to both, hence it is those foundation blocks that led to property. Arriving at my first company doorstep had me over the threshold in flares, sideburns and blond hair, today you get a grey thatch on a head of nigh on 45 years of experience, a brimming knowledge of the Surrey property market, a legacy of new build mansions and an intimate knowledge of every blade of grass and house on St George’s Hill in Weybridge. I have been privileged to work for latterly two major corporate agencies both Nationally and Internationally setting up their brands in The Home Counties from 1982 and thereafter. My last firm was just under 40 years, man and boy and principally based in ‘The Golden Triangle’ as referred to of Weybridge, Cobham, Esher and 10-mile radius thereof.

Present: Accelerating to today, I decided to retire or as I now find myself, not at all retired as back in the saddle at the request of clients ‘old and new’. Their excuse was ‘Tim, you got me into this, now get me out!’ I set up Garbett & Partners some 3 years ago and delighted to report, touch wood that there is a need of grey hairs and ‘old school’ words of wisdom still. What do we do? - we live and breathe property, taking great passion and pride in what we do. First and foremost, we listen and then listen again, a skill gently missed by today’s eager beavers in the property world. We meet, greet, advise and work as a team with our clients to achieve their goals. Since opening the doors, we have sold numerous properties both openly and privately for clients, we have sourced and bought properties for retained clients, we have found and sold development land, in essence, anything to do with property is our forte and under our umbrella. Geography is not a problem either as our triumphs to date have included buying and selling in London, Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire.

Future: I have sternly advised my clients there is to be no crystal ball gazing and emphatically not be even considered over the ensuing months and year, a cautious time undoubtedly bodes ahead. It is going to be and will be a different marketplace for us all to consider. We are, as at today experiencing Governmental change, global conflicts, recessionary words, interest rate demands, all issues affecting the home property market. Prices have peaked and cooled off, premiums are not being paid, the market has levelled, and this must be told, accepted and built into clients property plans going forward. We are here to assist, listen, advise and help navigate the way forward, it will not be a Gung-ho, finger in the air property market anymore. That’s it, my heart on my sleeve, thank you for reading!
