How are your sales skills?? ??
Are you too soft?? ??
Too pushy? ??
Maybe even too desperate? ? ??
Love them or hate them, selling is?part of successfully running a business.
It’s easy to sell when the customer is ready to buy. Agreed??
It’s very different though, when you had no income last month and need a sale yourself. And how about when they are undecided, just shopping around??
My biggest lessons on sales?
Personally I had a lot to learn about effective sales conversations when I started my business 25 years ago. Over the years I have worked with numerous coaches, marketing consultants and business mentors who have recommended different strategies many of which didn’t work for me.? ??????
Maybe I was too unsubtle in using them or maybe I wasn’t given clear enough instructions. Anyway, I can remember clearly - with embarrassment, even now many years later - occasions when I was either too soft or too challenging. ?All with the intention of serving the client well, but getting it wrong all the same. ? ?
I learnt that we humans are motivated more by avoiding bad outcomes than by desire for positive ones. So, clients in general more easily spend money through a pressing fear - of failure, of missing a promotion, of losing key personnel - than through a wish to develop that leader’s potential.
However, I don’t buy into the old ?style of sales tactic that encourages us to dig into the client’s pain so that they buy from us. That feels like manipulation and anyway strikes me as cruel.?

What works for my clients, works for me ????????????
In selling conversations, I prefer to use both positive and negative motivations, not in a manipulative way but to help ?the client clearly see their options - the value to be gained of taking action and the dangers of doing nothing.?
I use a structure that guides the conversation in a good way. I use an approach that enables the client to see clearly their needs and my expertise - ?and to buy if the decision is right for them. I know how to close the conversation so we both have clarity. I know how to open the door to negotiation and how to gain a decision.?
And this is the type of non-pushy selling that I help female coaches, consultants, trainers, and other experts to use in their own business.?
