Sellers Beware: Amazon Email Phishing Scheme

There's an email phishing scam targeting Amazon Sellers and it's very convincing. Here's how to protect your account and avoid nefarious schemes to get access to your Amazon account.

Last week I received an email from what appeared to be Seller Support. The email was sent from: [email protected] and was formatted just like any other email:

It was sent to the primary email on my Amazon account, addressed to me, and contained all of the typical footer information.

What made it even more convincing was that in my Notification Preferences, it showed my Emergency Notifications information as being "Unverified."

In order to comply, I replied to the email with the last four digits of my phone number on file. This prompted a second email asking me to verify the phone number on my account:

When I clicked the "Send Verification Email" my Anti-Virus software popped up with a notification that it had blocked a Phishing scam and revealed the actual website.

Realizing that it was a scam, attempting to gain access to my Seller Central Account, I immediately reported the Phishing scheme to Amazon at: [email protected]

Amazon immediately responded with a follow up email, providing Tips on what to do when you receive suspicious communication and how to protect yourself from scammers.

If you've received similar communication make sure to protect yourself and your account by always verifying that the email came from an Amazon.com email address.
