Sell From The Heart

To my dearest SHARP Public Speaking Seminar Attendees of “Public Speaking From The Heart"
And… to all of you who are reading this…
I’m Elizabeth Barry, also known as The Kind Communicator. I’m an executive coach with an extensive marketing and sales background and like a Swiss army knife, I pull out the tools that are right for you when we work together.
Today, in addition to my presentation to esteemed sales professionals, I wanted to provide an “editors cut” version for referral and additional motivation. If you were there, thank you for joining… or you weren’t and you’re thinking about your public speaking skillsets and wish to up-level your confidence, self-esteem and how you show up on a zoom camera, this may be an article worth your while.
The most important element of public speaking is to know that YOU MATTER.
Your words matter and your experience and knowledge matters and that darn ego of yours that sometimes hold you back from reaching out, picking up the phone, asking for a sale, requesting a meeting or whatever it is that you’d like to do that you’re sitting on like a meditation pillow in harmony with “What if”… let’s examine this scenario closely.
As much as I love meditation, there’s a time for sitting and a time for doing. The time is now to SELL OURSELVES and to do it so well that people want to buy from us, like us and pay attention to us. That’s what influence is. An influencer is a leader.
The answer to how to up-level your influence skills is clear. Speak from the heart. Authenticity is a savvy 2021 goal.
Since so many of us are forced behind a laptop with our dogs and cats, maybe children or fish in the background, we can get a bit complacent and uncertain about how we look or what our prospect will think of us in a nice shirt but sweatpants underneath. Rightfully so. I feel you!
Let me offer a scenario when it comes to sales and confidence.
On January 3rd, a 62 foot speed boat pummeled over my skull in a hit and run accident and I lost the love of my life before my eyes in the water. I was miraculously saved but my partner is now in heaven.
I have always lived life from a positive angle and with a positive lens, but this past year taught me so much about the work that I’ve done up until now.
Not everything goes our way and nothing is ever really in our way. Your darn ego tells you to measure yourself up. The ego tells you to stay down… but you’re in charge.
My upcoming book, Lead by Example, The Circumstances of Your Life Do Not Define You- Your Behavior Does, will debut this spring. It teaches the valuable lesson that we are all messengers for one another.
As I stand before you today as a sales leader and a motivational coach, I have felt your insecurities. I have sold millions of dollars in my 20 years in sales and marketing and the most important lesson to selling and public speaking is to know that your disappointments and setbacks are there for you to use as a step. Think of each of them as a stair to climb, and no matter how long it takes for you to climb those stairs, the important part is that you take the steps.
Every sale, every pitch, every call, video, zoom, email or prospect inquiry is a chance for you to shine your best light because time waits for none of us and authenticity is far more fun that robotic monotone selling. Come alive on camera from the heart. You are alive. Use your time and breath wisely.
If you are fearful behind the camera, get coached. If you are lacking sales organization, get coached. If you are uncomfortable with the current landcape of working from home, get coached.
You are the one holding YOURSELF BACK. Your last trigger or rejection means nothing in the moment unless you give it meaning to hold you back. Step forward. What have you to lose?
Keep climbing.
Keep selling.
Let’s talk about your greatness because you matter and your words matter.
Love
