Sell a Course to Exploit the Unemployed

Sell a Course to Exploit the Unemployed

Has anyone else noticed a strong uptick in the number of companies pitching courses to the unemployed?

I am seeing companies exploit the unemployed in the following areas and find their tactics vile and disgusting:

  • A course to help you know how to improve your networking skills to reach hiring managers. They will point out that your lack of getting interviews is a knowledge gap when there are no facts to support this to exploit your emotions.
  • A course to help you become a real estate investor. As if knowing a process to flip a house is enough where the secret is in knowing how to inspect a purchase which is gained over a longer time horizon via hands on experience.
  • You don't need a course but rather a #careercoach whom you can pay a fee for the interaction, gain a few in your face obvious suggestions and empty your wallet faster with zero guaranteed outcomes.
  • A course to help you become a coach yourself where you spend tens of thousands upfront to learn coaching best practices with some guarantee that you will get income. All of the risk rests on your shoulder.

When you are unemployed, you really should focus on capital preservation. Embracing reality and not being too dreamy are also necessary. It’s a dog eat dog world out there and a lot of people suck. Hiring managers, recruiters, and even other jobseekers. It may take some time for you to come to the realization that your Linkedin network often will not help pay you forward and that you are on your own where time spent waiting is the only solution for many.

How do we bring back sanity and humanity to our interactions with each other? Does anyone care?
