Selimiye: Hidden bays and Sea Adventures in the Fairy Tale Village

Selimiye village is a hidden paradise located in the southwestern coast of Turkey, in the district of Marmaris. The village is situated on the shores of a beautiful bay surrounded by hills covered in pine forests, making it a serene and picturesque location for travelers seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

One of the main draws of Selimiye village is its clear blue waters, which are perfect for swimming, diving, and snorkeling. The beach is relatively quiet and peaceful, and visitors can enjoy a variety of water sports or simply relax and soak up the sun.

Selimiye is a place where maritime culture has been important since history. The people here make a living entirely from maritime activities, and in the past sponge extraction from the sea and fishing and selling fish were the most important sources of income.

But now Selimiye is one of the most important locations for luxury boat holidays and gulet charters.

Its proximity to Marmaris and the unique untouched bays around it direct the attention of boat owners and boat holiday lovers to Selimiye.

Selimiye, which is located at the corner of Hisar?nü Bay and in a protected bay, is a seaside town where boaters winter in the winter months looking for calm and storm-free sea.

Boutique hotels, restaurants with local seafood, shipyards and maintenance centres where boats can be maintained for the winter make this place an important place.

For those interested in history and culture, Selimiye village offers several interesting sites to explore. One of the most notable is the ancient castle, which dates back to the Byzantine period and was once used as a military fortress to protect the surrounding area. Visitors can climb to the top of the castle and take in breathtaking views of the village and the sea

Transportation to Selimiye is also very enjoyable by car. If there are a few roads with the most beautiful views of Turkey's coastline, one of them is the road between Marmaris and Selimiye. Driving between the sea and forest-covered slopes..

When you come to Selimiye, there are bays that you can go by car as well as bays that you can only go by sea and uninhabited islands nearby.

S??liman ( means Shallow Harbour ) which is the most well-known in Selimiye and attracts attention with its sea clarity and sandy structure, Cennet ( Paradise ) Bay is located, these bays are next to each other. You can reach these bays by car or even on foot.

As you can imagine, these two bays are crowded in the summer months, but you can be sure that it is not overly crowded, because Selimiye is 40 km away from Marmaris centre and there are no all-inclusive resort hotels here, so Selimiye, where those who come by boat and those who prefer to stay in boutique hotels stay, is not crowded like many other tourism centres in Turkey.

Kameriye Island, which can be reached by a short boat journey from Selimiye, offers many reasons for its visitors to say "glad we came here" with its deep blue sea, pine forests and historical ruins. This small island fascinates both local and foreign tourists every year.

Kameriye Island is an ideal place for swimming and sunbathing with its pristine sea and untouched bays. Especially the bay in the northwest of the island looks like something out of a postcard with its turquoise sea and soft sand. The inner parts of the island are covered with pine forests and offer a pleasant environment for nature walks.

The history of Kameriye Island dates back to the 4th century BC. The most important historical building on the island is the Church of St George, which is estimated to have been built 1800 years ago. In addition to the church, there is also a monastery from the Byzantine period and a water cistern from the Ottoman period. Visitors make wishes by lighting candles inside the church and tying colourful cloths to the olive tree in the garden.

Kocabah?e Bay is a bay with natural beauties that can be reached by sea. This bay attracts attention with its calm and clean sea. Accommodation options in the bay include Kocabah?e Glamping, which offers an experience in touch with nature.

The glamping area usually offers luxury tents or bungalows and offers guests a comfortable accommodation experience. The bay, which is intertwined with natural life, will offer an environment of serenity where you can relax and relieve the tiredness of the whole year. Olive and pine trees on the slopes, thyme scents, wild goats... I recommend you to add Kocabah?e bay to your boat holiday route

One of the favourite bays of boat owners and charter boats; Dirsekbükü. This is one of the most protected bays in the region, located in the south-western part of Hisaronu Bay.

The bay resembles a bowl shape and is therefore a sheltered bay. The sea is turquoise clear. In the bay there is a family-run restaurant serving fresh seafood every time. Not only as a restaurant but also as a market service. Here you can also get services such as clean water and laundry.

There are many restaurants in Selimiye that serve seafood, calamari, sea beans, local olive oil appetizers and dishes.

Mediterranean greens, desserts made from goat's milk.. With a 10-minute walk along the harbour, you will see many restaurants and they all cook delicious dishes.. They will please your taste buds. I recommend you try as many of them as possible while you are here. To cool down, I recommend you to drink cotton candy lemonade, one of the local drinks.

Of course, not everyone has a boat or you may not want to spend time at sea all the time.

Boutique hotels in Selimiye are generally family-run.

Their sincerity, clean and different service approach, and uncrowded environment will make your holiday different.

There are many boutique hotels here, but I still recommend you to make a reservation before you come because Selimiye, which has become popular in recent years, also has long-term stays for people working remotely, so do not leave your luck to the last minute to find a place in boutique hotels.
