Self-talk to Keep You on Track
"I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self." -- Aristotle
Reminders to self (you’re welcome to listen):
- Carve out empty space and stillness in your day so there is room for wisdom, insight, and gratitude.
- The world got along fine without you and will someday get along again without you. Hold this in tension with the truth that you’re here for a purpose. Use your uniqueness to help everyone around you thrive.
- You are not alone. YOU are not alone. You are NOT alone. You are not ALONE.
- You can learn from everyone (even if they are only fools who demonstrate what you should not do).
- Boldness generates its own kind of genius, and resources tend to become available in its wake.
- Though my car headlight shine only 200 feet, I can safely finish a long trip through the dark. The way to see a little further ahead is to move forward.
- Measure the value you add from the customer back, not from your comfortable preferences forward.
- Be Issacharian: Serve under authority, understand the times, know what your organization should do, and lead your family.
- You must be a friend in order to have friends.
- Only you can exercise the self-discipline that brings freedom.
- It is better to fight the next war than re-fight the last one.
- Mastery is worth the effort. The greatest joys come from relationships and creating, not consuming.
