Today's devotional is from Your Life Matters: Daily Reflections from the Psalms

"Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness. May he judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice" - Psalm 72:1-2.

The psalms were written by numerous authors, one of whom was Solomon. In today's passage, Solomon began his psalm with a prayer incorporating the theme for his reign, which was getting and dispensing divine wisdom. Solomon prayed for himself that he would be able to judge the people with righteousness and justice, and God answered his prayer in a significant way as reported in 1 Kings: "God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt" (1 Kings 4:29-30).
