Self-Love

“You are searching the world for treasure, but the real treasure is yourself.” - Rumi
Walking towards self-love may be difficult for many in the beginning, as some may feel unworthy and others may think that self-love is selfishness. It takes practice to truly love oneself. I broke down what I believe are essential parts of practicing self-love.
Compassionate Self Forgiveness
Forgiveness is the most important step towards self-love. When we hold onto anger, pain, and regret we create energy blockages in our body that literally lead to disease. We hold ourselves hostage in the past or feel anxiety about the future. We miss out on enjoying everyday miracles that happen right before our eyes. Don’t allow past decisions by yourself or others dictate your self-worth. Make the choice to liberate yourself from past traumas.? Some of us are able to bring awareness to situations that have brought us pain and regret, make amends and then let go of them in order to heal. Others may need to write them down. Here is how you can practice compassionate self forgiveness.
Keep a journal or write down in your phone notes
I forgive myself for buying into the idea that I am_____________________.

Solitude
“Your sacred space is where you find yourself over and over again.” JC
Dedicate 20-30 minutes minimum daily to yourself with no phone or external distractions. Pray, write, journal, meditate. Waking up earlier than everyone in your house is usually the best way to make sure you accomplish this.?Research has shown that those early morning hours are when we are most connected to our true self.
The most important journey is our journey inward, to our true self our soul.? That can only be reached in solitude and stillness. We need to get centered right now more than ever to protect our heart and soul.? There is so much outside noise that can harm us more than we know. The amount of information we consume can be a burden on our mental and spiritual well-being.
We are conditioned to look out into the world for things we need and in return feel so unsatisfied, our souls yearn for authenticity. Love yourself enough to watch less news, browse less on social media and do more of what your heart and soul need, quietude.?
Habits
I attended a virtual conference in 2020 where James Clear the author of “Atomic Habits,” was a keynote speaker. He spoke about the small changes that we do over time, that lead to reaching our goals. He gave an example of simply being present while making your morning coffee.
Make small changes that will lead to achieving long term goals.? It can be as simple as taking your vitamins daily, drinking more water and/or committing to moving your body a few times a week. Don’t procrastinate! Robin Sharma describes procrastination in, “The 5 am Club,” as self-hatred.

One of the major components of practicing self-love is caring for our health. I listened to a Self-Mastery Podcast by Robin Sharma where he says if you don’t make time for your health, you’ll eventually have to make time for your illness. I remember being moved to tears because, I knew I deserve to be in the best health in order to live my best life. This brings me to a crucial point of practicing self-love. We must continue to learn and feed our minds and souls.? Make it a habit to listen to a podcast and/or read. Learning means you’re growing!
Activity
Close your eyes. Picture someone you love. See their face. What do you wish for them? Write it down.
?
What you wrote is actually what you want for yourself. I did this exercise at an Oprah event I attended in 2014, “The life you want”.? It is our self- fulfilling prophecy holding us back from Dreaming Big. Love yourself enough to let go of the fear of Dreaming BIG!

9 个月Sarah Abdolrazek I really resonate with the quote you included about either making time for health or down the road making time for illness. I’ve lived that first hand taking care of my mom. It’s not where I want to end up, which is why health and movement, and those atomic habits are so important to me.
