Self-love, community & ZOG: my 2023 Reflections

Self-love, community & ZOG: my 2023 Reflections

As the final chapters of 2023 unfold, I'm reflecting on how it became a year of:

? returning to the foundations of well-being and self-love…

? embracing the power of community, support and connection…

? showing me the importance of leaning into my ZOG of sitting with others in their darkness so they can find their light…

?? Some of my personal highlights:

?? Delved further into my own healing with the Compassionate Enquiry circles created by Gabor Mate

?? Developed a regular morning meditation practice, which I notice when I have neglected, BUT I also now lean towards compassion rather than criticism (I say lean because I am still learning)

?? Regularly practice gratitude and really enjoy doing this with my partner as a unique way of learning about what each other appreciates

?? Became a morning person and have committed to going to the gym 2-3 times a week (younger me would never believe you!)

?? Became an aunty (for the 6th time)!

?? Saved 10 "too good to go" bags!

?? Cut my hair (after 3 years), sending 16 inches and almost £900 to The Little Princess Trust

16 inches of hair were donated, and almost £900 was given to the Little Princess Trust. Thank you to all who donated and supported in your own way!

?? Some business highlights around my continued work in trauma awareness and support:

?? I started the year strong by speaking with Alison Grundle from the law society and the Rotary Club, Belfast thanks to my connections through JCI? - it was great to be able to share my vision with others and hear how I can support them to become more trauma-informed

?? I launched the Growth Beyond Trauma podcast, speaking with others who have gone through their healing journey using tools such as writing and activism (Ep 2: Winnie M Li speaking about her novels Dark Chapter and Complicit) and speaking about the impact of pornography on our culture (Ep 3: Dr Elly Hanson) as well as sharing my own story of healing with support from Vivian McKinnon SQHP in Ep 1 (links below if you need some Christmas listening)

?? I honed my presenting and facilitation skills through delivering and co-delivering workshops for Nexus, New Ways NI and Recentre Limited and presenting at the FIRST all Ireland Arts Therapies conference, which led to an opportunity to speak as a guest lecturer at the Ulster University … where I have recently been accepted as a part-time lecturer on the MA Art Psychotherapy course!

?? Won the Might Women Award for Women in Wellbeing

?? Worked with some amazing one-to-one clients - you inspire me the most and make me a better therapeutic coach and human be-ing!

I think my sister cried more at this than me! So grateful for the support from my amazing family and partner who really are my rocks on my wobbly days!

?? The support I sought out and leaned in to came from:

?? Tina Calder through Women in Business NI mentor programme -

?? Gabi Burnside and John Ferris through the Ulster Bank Accelerator Programme

?? Dr Mark Grixti and BSP UK for an insightful supervision group and David Linford-Smith for being an amazingly insightful supervisor

?? My festival creation support - Vivian McKinnon, Karen Hamilton Sharon Coyle and Glenda Burns for support with getting my upcoming Festival for celebrating growth beyond trauma in motion (watch this space...)

??And of course, Nicola Rattle from Pink Spaghetti, who has helped me stay more consistent with connecting with you all

I also need to give a shout out to:

????Sean and JP from Core Impact for their SYNPASE networking group; Dr Jonny Bloomfield for his netwalking group, and Ruth Young for organising a Christmas get-together - I am so grateful to those who have created these opportunities to top up my connection pot on a regular basis

??? Jason Lear for his AI and training workshops that have helped me keep on top of these skills to improve my productivity and reduce my stress from looking at a blank page when writing!

Next year’s goals:

?Support 8 businesses/ workplaces to be more trauma-informed, helping them and their employees to thrive

?Coach 6 high achieving women who are held back by the impact of trauma to lean into their strengths, resilience and true-self by re-writing their self-story (allowing me to offer 2 pro bono sessions)

?Deliver the Growth Beyond Trauma group (twice!) - a group experience of the space I hold for my 1 to 1 clients

?Speak more about my passion for the capacity of growth from trauma - podcasts, talks, networking etc.

?Trauma Awareness Festival bringing an holistic experience of trauma healing to those in Northern Ireland

?Find more BALANCE and do more of what fills me up

?Be open to new opportunities and lean into the fear, knowing it will take me closer to supporting more people to find their light in 2024!

Loved delivering my boundaries workshop as a part of a New Ways NI workshop series

Finally, I want to say that I couldn’t and won’t do all of this alone, so thank you for being a part of this momentous year. Here's to more growth, connection, and shared success in 2024!

Now to practice what I preach and rest…

What are some of your highlights from 2023 and goals for 2024?

Merry Christmas! Wishing you a restful break and an abundant 2024!

Congratulations on becoming an aunt and for your fundraising efforts, you make a positive difference, Hannah. I'm also delighted we met twice in the last month at networking events.
