This was on the cards for the past decade or more. A truck got entangled in wires that are all over the place, and this pulled an electric pole down which fell on a person who died , and in another similar case a college student a girl and her friend suffered burns. Administration did what is easy they arrested the driver of the truck. We often think easy instead of thinking right. When thinking right we have to ask ourselves difficult questions, in this case I assume that the truck was on the road (the rightful place to drive the truck) if so then what was the OFC or other such wires doing on the road. If the wires are not supposed to be on the road ( in the air exposed) then where are these wires to be. As per regulations these wires are to be underground. For the companies to adhere to these rules they need to apply for permission to dig the road to lay the wires, they then need to repair the road, they had dug up. Seeking permission is a great opportunity for some people in the administration to make some illegal money. There is also a cost of digging and laying the cable, then there is a cost to repair the road that they have dug up. Not to mention the time taken to apply and seek permission is an added cost. There are some companies who have it their value system not pay any speed monies (bribes) but may be they fail to add in their value system that they would take ownership of the consequences . There is a company a service provider of internet, their network architect is over their air, and it used to be line extension from one house to the next. They would pay the feeder house for ensuring continuous power supply. These kind of architectures are cost efficient but no one sees the possibilities of accidents which people like me term as freak and the administration go after the easy scapegoat. When I walk on the road I see cable lying all over, they hang precariously. One is not sure if these cable are carrying electricity or the internet waves. People are worried about Telecom towers which are radiating at a height , what about these cables which are at eye level. People who walk in a hurry on the pavements may not see these cables and may meet with another kind of freak accident. Self Leadership is a skill . Self-leadership is a rare skill. I believe it is not a feature of the dominant leadership skills in today’s corporate and political world. What makes self-leadership so difficult? The first seven years of our lives are crucial. In those years, we are in the phase of unconscious incompetence and are easily impressed with the outside world. Consider the impact on the children whose parents are currently taking them pillion and driving on the wrong side of the road. We believe that what we see and experience is the conscious reality. In this phase, our environment seems conventional to us in its rules and behaviour. We don’t see people’s rules and behaviour as conscious incompetence until much later in life. But while the outer conventional world is structured and has order, our inner core is chaotic. There is so much confusion inside us that we prefer the structure and order we perceive outside. It is easier to sink into the materialistic world and be in harmony with the outside so that we can find harmony within. Everything we don’t yet know or fail to observe within ourselves is outside of what we are conscious of and therefore unconscious and a kind of bliss. In the first half of our lives, we use different sources of power to build an identity. Our identities support a healthy ego, which takes over our lives as we become successful in the outside world’s structure and order. It is in the second half of our lives that we tend to look inward, as Jung described. Self-leadership is observing and managing yourself and taking responsibility for your actions and behaviours. When you achieve self-leadership, you stop looking for approval and projecting authority onto others. On your path to self-leadership, you will find yourself developing qualities of honesty, discipline, humility, love and compassion, accountability, courage, curiosity, assertiveness, and self-belief. Your self-leadership will have an impact on the people around you. Awareness defines ethics The main focus of our education system has been on cognitive development, with our emotional and behavioural development left in the hands of our friends, family, and society. We model our behaviour on what is valued in our culture, and our culture defines success as the fulfilment of materialistic needs. Wall Street and Dalal Street glorify CEOs who have done well in the business world. But while we marvel at their business achievements, a few of these individuals have loosely held values.? If we as a nation could manage soft landing on the south side of the moon this journey of Self Leadership should also be round the corner.

1 年The ugly and cynical truth is 'I am not bothered as long as I am able to get my work done or get what I am looking for'.....by hook or crook. This menatlity will take another 10 generations to change unless we change our education system, the awareness and penal system. The funny part is that these very folks who today violate all rules in India have a lot of exposure having lived abroad and complied to the local rules and regulations. There the fear of leval action, losing a job, missing an opportunity and the potential of being barred from the country or the terriroty are so high, that they turn out to be the models of Self Leadership and to a large extent shroud everyone around them in such initatives and 'good-will' with their overbearing concern for others. But back home, they don their local garb (Selfishness) and crude behaviour. This relates only to one attribute - PURE UNADULTRATED SELF-SELFISHNESS. Pardon me my outburst, but this is visible every waking hour of our daily lives........

1 年So true Jagdish! Self leadership is all about self awareness and being accountable to yourself and everyone around you. This constant need to look outside whether for approval or to blame someone else is definitely not self leadership! Very thought provoking
