Self-Leadership: 5 Keys to Master Your Inner Game
In today's fast-paced and constantly connected world, it's more important than ever to control your own life and destiny. That's where self-leadership comes in.
Self-leadership is the ability to take charge of your own life, set your own goals, and achieve them without anyone else's permission or approval. It's about being the captain of your own ship and steering it in the direction you want it to go.
While self-leadership may seem like a daunting task, it's quite simple once you get started. And the benefits are well worth the effort. When you're in control of your own life, you're less likely to be thrown off course by unexpected events or other people's agendas.
Here are 5 Keys to Mastering your Inner Game.
1. Take Responsibility and Be Accountable
One of the biggest concerns I observe is that many leaders and business owners don't own up.
As a leader, you must be willing to take responsibility for your actions and be accountable to yourself and your team. This means setting an example and being responsible for your own success or failure. To progress even in the most challenging times, you must first take responsibility for your own life and career.
Being accountable means being able to answer for your actions. It is taking ownership of your decisions and being responsible for the outcomes, good or bad. As a leader, you must be willing to stand up and accept responsibility when things go wrong. Your team will respect you for it and follow your lead when things are going well.
2. Set Goals and Take Action
The 2023 future will be a crossroads for leaders, with many new challenges presenting themselves. Having helped and advised hundreds of CEOs and executives, I notice how many don't clearly define objectives.
Self-leadership is the process of leading oneself to achieve personal or professional goals. In order to have inner alignment, it is important to set goals and take action.
Self-leadership requires setting goals and taking action to achieve desired outcomes. Without a goal, it can be difficult to know what actions to take and how to measure progress. Once a goal is established, it is important to execute toward achieving that goal. This may require making a plan, taking risks, and seeking feedback from others.
3. Be Authentic and Transparent
In today's business world, it's more important than ever for leaders to be authentic and transparent. Why? Because trust is essential for both individuals and organizations to thrive. And trust starts with authenticity and transparency.

When leaders are authentic, they build trust by being who they say they are. They don't try to put on a persona or project an image that isn't real. Instead, they are genuine and honest with themselves and others.
Being transparent as a leader also builds trust. It means being open and sharing information freely. Leaders who are transparent communicate openly and frequently, keeping everyone in the loop. This creates a safe environment where people feel comfortable sharing their own thoughts and ideas.
Authenticity and transparency are key ingredients of trustworthiness. And when leaders exhibit these qualities, they inspire confidence in those around them.
4. Be Persistent and Consistent with your Actions
If you're a leader, being persistent and consistent with your actions is key to seeing success. Dabbling in leadership roles or taking on short-term projects will only get you so far - it's important to be dedicated to your goals and see them through to the end.
Being a leader requires more than just having a title or position of power. It's about setting an example and inspiring others to follow suit. If you're inconsistent with your actions or seem disinterested in your work, it'll be difficult to gain the trust and respect of those you're leading.
It can be easy to get sidetracked or burned out when you're in a leadership role, but it's important to push through and stay focused on your goals. Remember why you took on the role in the first place and what you hope to achieve.
5. Get Constructive Feedback and Change your Approach
Leadership is not easy. It requires hard work, dedication, and the ability to be vulnerable. One of the most important aspects of being a leader is the ability to take constructive feedback and adapt your approach.
Constructive feedback can be difficult to hear, but it is essential to improve as a leader. It can be helpful to think of feedback as a way to help you grow and develop, rather than something that is personal.
When you are open to hearing feedback, it shows that you are confident and willing to change. This type of attitude is essential to be an effective leader. Take the time to listen to what others have to say and then make the necessary changes in your own approach.
