SELF IMPROVEMENT THROUGH MENTORSHIP

SELF IMPROVEMENT THROUGH MENTORSHIP

As per Newton, Gravity pulls down. If we draw the free body diagram for a particle, particle need an equal up side force to balance the gravitational pull to keep it in the steady state. To move beyond steady state, ahead and high, particle need a continuous forward and upside force to take it along. Similarly, in day to day personal life, we need a NET Positive constant force against gravitational pull (i.e. diminishing self-performance) to move continuous ahead and that force is called Self-improvement.

In simple words, Self-improvement is the improvement of our knowledge, status, or character by our own efforts. It is the quest to make ourselves better in any and every facet of life. Self-improvement always starts with self-awareness and the ability to transform our habits.

Self-improvement plans are hard to design and even harder to stick to. Self-improvement requires continuous fire in our belly and discipline to improve and is ultimate requirement for steady growth.

For Self-improvement journey, we can harness others' input, wisdom, and energy while we are on our road to self-improvement. We should seek getting others' help in targeting our areas for improvement and involve them in reaching our development goals. This may shorten the journey and make it interesting to sail together and learn from others learning.

It has been found that surprising value may come out of proactively asking others to help us, target our future avenues for improvement, and hopefully gotten some wonderful goals out of that. We should look how they can take an active part in the development stages themselves, and what this does for both outside perceptions and our own motivation and accountability.

Marshall Goldsmith, a top executive coach who has helped over 150 world CEOs make great strides forward in self-improvement, suggested that the value of being open about the fact that we are trying to make some improvements, and not simply for the valuable insights that others may provide us with. When we're open about what we're trying to improve, and consistently checking in with others we also get the various benefits, like People will perceive our effort and progress, instead of just our slip-ups when we fail, and We get the extra stimulation and motivation that comes from others following our progress.

The idea of asking others help in terms of feedforward in place of feedback is one of the great proactive method. It avoids the hurt reactions or failure to truly listen that can come from a focus on the past. The feedforward comes from seeking help from ourselves and can converted in few questions like, I want to be better at XYZ. Can you give me a couple of ideas to help me?

We can also involve others continuously in our change process. By doing this, People are more aware of our efforts and progress and We stay more accountable and motivated.

In this way, Self-improvement can be more satisfying, fulfilling and target hitting through mentorship.

Keep Learning, Keep Improving !!!!!!!

Well said! and taking responsibility for one's present circumstances (rather than blaming others) is a key step in self improvement.
