Self-driving Stories – July - August 2024
We're thrilled to bring you the latest edition of Self-Driving Stories, where we recap the most important news and breakthroughs from the past three months. Let's dive into the latest and greatest of July and August.
Product updates
Back in July, we launched our latest newsletter, Automotive Simulation Meets AI. In this series, we explore the relationship between simulation and AI and illuminate technologies such as neural rendering and reconstruction with the help of our experts. You can check out two blogs: one from Tamás Matuszka about neural reconstruction in AD simulation and one from Zoltan Hortsin about aiSim's General Gaussian Splatting renderer . If you don't want to miss future blogs, subscribe !
Just a week ago we announced our Academic License Program for aiSim, the world's first ADAS/AD simulation tool with integrated neural rendering and reconstruction features. If you're an academic researcher in automated driving, this is your chance to leverage cutting-edge technology for your projects. Learn more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/dSUXRkiY
If you are really interested in neural rendering, we have good news: Szabolcs Janky , our Product Strategy SVP, wrote a guest article about this topic on aithority.com – follow this link to read it.
We started July with a bang: our aiSim 5 simulator has achieved ISO 26262 re-certification from TüV Nord. The certification emphasizes the simulator's physics-based aspects, complete determinism, and adherence to an end-to-end ISO 26262-compliant development process. aiWare 's space adventure has come to an end, as C3S Electronics Development LLC 's 3U CubeSat satellite VIREO (Virtual Intelligence Realization for Earth Observation), launched on 15 April 2023, completed its mission on 7 August.
The mission's aim, which was unique on an international scale, was to use and extend artificial intelligence's in-flight processing capabilities in space. Several space experiments were carried out on board VIREO, but the most exciting for us, of course, was the integration of our NPU for automotive neural networks, aiWare, into the satellite.
This solution was then used to process image data captured by the satellite's cameras in space using AI-based image processing algorithms. This demonstration was also an innovative technology transfer, as we sent an automotive hardware accelerator into space - which proved that it can easily overcome any obstacle, whether on Earth or in space.

It was a huge honor that our AI Researcher team's work on "Controllable Neural Reconstruction for Autonomous Driving" was featured at SIGGRAPH 2024' s Technical Papers sessions in Denver! To learn more about it, check out the details here .
Our Chinese distributor, keymotek , was at the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Show and Automatic Driving Expo in Shanghai at the National Exhibition and Convention Center between August 8 and 11. Among others, they showcased aiSim at their booth, and our dedicated colleagues provided them with on-site support.
Last week, we participated in the ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo in San José at the McEnery Convention Center. We brought our cutting-edge software tooling products: aiSim, the world's first ISO26262 ASIL D-certified autonomous driving simulator, and aiData, our automated data pipeline for generating high-quality training data.
When we were testing on closed sections of the M6 highway in Hungary, we got a few beauty shots of (in our opinion) one of the best-looking test fleets in the world. Even standing still, these Jeep Grand Cherokees are a sight to behold!
