Self-Deceit

Cortney Warren is credited with saying,?"The areas in which we felt most insecure, unsafe, unloved, uncomfortable, embarrassed, angry, and generally unresolved as a child, are the areas that we will be most prone to self-deception as an adult".

Recognizing when we are lying to ourselves can come in really handy.? We don't do it on purpose and it might be that most of us do some version of this in some area.? I sure do.

My signal is when I find myself judging someone else for behaving in a way that I don't like.? Now, keep in mind that I am not in real danger as a result of this person's actions, I just think they should be doing whatever another way.?

It absolutely has NEVER failed that this other person's behavior mirrors what I don't like about me.? ARGHHH!? It is SO annoying.

The silver lining?? When you get good at spotting these things, you can stop lying to yourself about your own behaviors.?

Don't like it when someone completely ignores you and talks right over you in a meeting?? No one does.? AND, it is valuable to ask yourself how often you don't even listen to the person who is speaking because you are busy working on what YOU are going to say, essentially ignoring that person.

Begin to notice where you are deceiving yourself about your own beliefs and actions.? From there, you can move in the direction of who you want to become rather than being the person that unaware part of you is.
