Self-Confidence

Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans this past Sunday was less than competitive on the field, but like most sporting events there was meaning within the competition. I was particularly drawn to the story on Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts' mindset over the past two football seasons.
Before kick-off on Sunday, Fox Sports aired an interview of Jalen conducted by Erin Andrews. One aspect the interview focused on was a picture of Jalen from two years ago when the Eagles lost Super Bowl LVII to the Chiefs (see top picture above). Jalen was walking back to the locker room while the Chiefs red and gold confetti rained down. Needless to say he was devastated by the loss. During the interview, Jalen confirmed the picture has been the homescreen image on his smartphone since the loss two years ago. He used the undesirable experience of losing that Super Bowl as motivation. You could clearly see and feel Jalen's conviction and confidence coming through the television screen as he talked about how he and his teammates used the lose in Super Bowl LVII as a launching point.
We've all failed at something in our lives. Failure is often seen as something to fear or avoid. It can also be seen as a weakness. Whether it is sports, work, or anything else in life, failure hurts (no pun intended). In reality, failure can be the greatest teacher and a powerful tool for growth. With the right mindset, failure can build self-confidence and self-confidence is undoubtedly a key to success.

Regardless of our failures we can all rise to the mountain top. Jalen and the Eagles winning Super Bowl LIX in dominating fashion is a great example. Their perseverance, commitment, leadership, determination, and self-confidence paid off as they lifted the Lambardi Trophy in victory.
