Have you ever heard a voice inside your head telling you “you are not good enough” or “you are prone to make mistakes at work” or anything that is full of doubts or self-loathing.
We all experience anger, frustration or guilt in situations like when we missed our deadlines, targets and didn’t achieve our goals.
In fact, we love to criticize our shortcomings and downfalls more than anything. We hardly take an hour or two hours to celebrate our accomplishments but we tend to dwell on our mistakes more often.
The question is how we can overcome that thing? Because it is stopping us doing more or hindering our progress.
The answer lies in practicing self-compassion.
Self-compassion has three parts including self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness.
Have you ever felt compassion for others? Obviously you have felt many times before, but when was the last time, you thought of practicing compassion on yourself.
Probably the answer would be “No”
So why do not take a start with self-kindness? Instead of cursing yourself for being stupid, lazy or dumb, Try extending the same warmth or understanding to yourself when things go wrong.
Secondly, treat yourself like other human being who are capable of making mistakes and embrace your inadequacies as part of larger human struggle.
Thirdly, practice mindfulness by recognizing when we are stressed or struggling without being judgmental or dramatic about it.
So next time, when you notice yourself indulging in negative self-talk then look for ways of practicing self compassion.
