Are self-care breaks essential?

Self-care breaks

Self-care breaks are essential to combat those continuous energy draining work experiences.

It can be so frustrating, time and time again to be stuck in the same cycle. Many times we forget ourselves and don't take that break!

If you have ever suffered with anxiety or depression, you may have not experienced the power of rest or know that by taking time off or having an extended period of leave you can feel completely different about life and work situations!

It can be difficult sometimes to recognise when you're heading that way and you just need to say, look, I need to stop and focus on me!

Don’t be worried that you will be seen as unreliable. It is better than burnout and being off for even longer!

Tomi’s Story;

‘Being a black woman in corporate America, it can be triple hard!

When you are in meetings and you're spoken over because you look much younger than you actually are and your advise is not taken seriously.

I always felt judged abit harder, so I worked harder to keep up with my peers.

I was fatigued constantly, struggled to sleep, depressed, anxious, but kept going.

I hit rock bottom with burnout in the pandemic and was physically ill which forced me to take some time off.

During my sabbatical I really focused on me, putting my physical and mental health first.

Each morning, when I would wake up. I prioritised getting the right nutrition, and sitting down to eat meals and enjoy them, because I had more time!

I was journaling, followed by exercise and then some meditation.

I also went back to therapy and made my healing and self-care a priority too!

Taking a sabbatical 100% helped me to prioritise my mental health & wellbeing.

My self-care routine is still a fundamental part of my daily rituals.

Say, yes to time off and yes to a sabbatical!

Oh yes they are to re-energize, re-focus, reflect and decide on how you’ll move forward to protect your energy

Indeed, you need breaks for self-care and inner silence. I just took one today for almost half a day! It works miracles! I got a lot done after that!
