What is self-awareness?

Ability to be aware about yourself , emotions or thoughts and actions . Being honest with who you are and how other people receive you .

Are you self-aware?

Being self-aware means you have to do an accurate and clear introspection of yourself without being influenced by peer pressure or even society. You assess your values, passions, strengths/weakness, and aspirations.

Are you aware of the hurt you inflict on others and yourself? Can you apologize after realizing what you said or did hurt them? Do you even apologize to yourself?

Benefits of Self-aware

  3. You become more confident
  4. You become more understanding (open-minded)
  5. You become happier and gain more personal growth
  6. You are more aware of your emotions (Emotionally intelligent)
  7. You can be more empathetic towards others
  8. You become a better leader

Cultivating self-aware

  1. Be curious about yourself

Find out about your values, beliefs, aspirations, and dreams. What makes you happy,what are you here for , what really fulfill you? Do this without the influence of the outside world.

2. Look in the mirror

Say all the great things about yourself, things you wish to hear from others. Affirm yourself, but also self-correct when you have to. Acknowledge that flaws in you don’t make you any less worthy of acceptance and affection.Remember to put on that beautiful smile while on that mirror.

3. Write down your feeling

Write down the negative thoughts or even the positive thoughts you have, think about what triggers them, then avoid the triggers for the negative thoughts. Try not to supress your emotions or deny their causes.

4. Practice me-time

Take time out. No work, no social media, just relax and connect with your thoughts and emotions. Engage in mindfulness practices like?meditation and yoga.

5. Be a good listener

  1. Listen to understand not just to respond, this way you become less judgemental and you might get new points of view, new perspectives and new insights.

Make self-awareness a habit , do not do it only when things go wrong.When you are self-aware, you make better decisions and be more at peace with what is happening around you. You understand your needs, personality, habits, values, strengths, and weaknesses. You learn to take accountability and trust yourself more.

Go ahead my friend and take that self-awareness test, do that self-introspection. Remember just because you are now self-aware doesn't mean everything will happen the way you want or life will suddenly become rosy, it just means you will have a better understanding and take better decisions. You are still human, you can never be perfect, don't be too hard on yourself.

You are enough . You are worthy. You have a purpose. You are significant.
