Self Awareness to Self Mastery ... my journey of learning

I came across the Emotional Culture Deck ("ECD") game about 5 years ago at a workshop. We were playing with the lo-fi version and the facilitator had taken the time to cut and box the cards.

I was hooked!

I purchased a couple of sets of cards (as it's an awesome one to share and everyone feel that tangible touch of the cards) and started playing. COVID struck, and I still wanted to know more so I signed up for the Masterclass Online, and then worked through delivering workshops and coaching to be a 'Silver' Elephant Rider whilst working in my previous role.

But I still wanted to know more ...

I wanted to understand more behind the background and possibilities for the game, further ways to play and incorporate the game into helping people connect with their feelings, have amazing conversations, build and share vulnerability, create emotional cultures. Create more ways to incorporate it into solutions for my coaching and business clients at hr butter

Which nicely segues into the Certified Consultant Course that I am currently completing. Far more than a course, it's been a personal reflective journey as I've worked my way through the core ECD frameworks - touching on Leadership, Values, Stakeholder Relationships, Change and Emotional Culture Crafting.

In this journey to mastery, I've had to look deep, consider myself and my own feelings and held beliefs - before I'm able to master these and better facilitate and lead others! This isn't hand holding, chanting and tears type of learning.

During this journery, I've been tasked with completing canvases and handbooks across all 5 of these frameworks.

My key takeaway have been:

  1. The POWER of creating awesome workplaces and better relationships by naming and sharing your feelings and crafting actions, behaviours and rituals that support what you're creating.
  2. IGNORING those feelings, doesn't change or make them go away. Often like a rotting fish, they just get stinkier. So even it if seems hard e.g. due to change, the ECD framework and game provides a reality non-threatening and amazingly interactive way to bring those feelings, fears, long held beliefs onto the table and craft a way forward.
  3. EMOTIONAL CONTAGION is real. That situation when your emotion impacts and flows onto others ... like that 'rain cloud', or you know the leader is so stressed because they talk, walk, and type fast ... that behaviour flows into a potential frenzy with their team.
  4. There are no rules with the Emotional Culture Deck, it can be used in so many different ways. Creating new ways, or 'hacks' is encouraged - because it's all about building that connection with our emotions.

Emotions drive behaviours which drive action and outcomes.

If you want to know more, reach out and connect - and we can have a play with the cards over coffee in person or virtual!

I'm glad you're enjoying the journey Kate. Emotions are really powerful, and it's fantastic to have a tool that makes learning about what we're feeling so accessible.
