Self-awareness is the first competence of Leadership

One more year of collecting experiences and notes about how important it is to increase our self-awareness for a better leadership experience and a balanced life.

In every leadership program delivered, the most liked module is the one about knowing yourself. The impact that this experience has on us is incredibly expanded to our mindset when we solve problems, take decisions, communicate and influence others, is huge the power of knowing ourselves better.

The 1:1 sessions are intense and full of new perspectives and suddenly I start to understand why I do what I do and how this is perceived by others.

There is a structure I suggest over this 12 years of experience to follow this process on your own:

1. why do you want to increase your level of understanding?
2. block the time into your agenda to start this process of "myself awareness".
3. pick up a tool to assess yourself and start reading about you (I use DiSC and love it, because is simple and easy to understand, and the assessment focus on how you behave and not the motivator, you can use another tool).
4. run into the following structure of understanding: what do you value, the most? what are the people with the ones you flow, how will you describe them? what emotions bring you the best situations? and the worst? what are the words that you most repeat to yourself? what is your first thought when you wake up? You can develop your own set of self-knowledge questions regarding specific moments of the day.

If you like other tools like tarot or numerology you can use them in the process for you to be able to be exposed to reading about you, about how you behave. Always remember and keep in mind that the way we behave talks about us, and not about others. As this is a mantra for life.
