Is self-appraisal a ceremony?

How many of you think, that self-appraisal is just a formality and there is not much outcome with that. If you are the one, then read through and let’s see if there is any change of opinion.

I always follow the principle of “If you don’t value your work, no one will value it”, with that lets understand why self-appraisal is important for every individual. ?A review of our efforts for a specific time will help us to understand where we are and what have we achieved.?

But is that the crux or something else. I look it as my diary of achievement, challenges, obstacles and learnings.? I also look at it as a mirror to reflect and relate to what has happened and how its aligned with my goal, my organisation goal.? I know this may sound philosophical, however that’s the fact, we need to validate, revalidate ourselves and then find what has been done and what is yet to be done.

Oh, did the above sentence go over your head, then let’s come back.? I am going so far to say that self-appraisal is your own self esteem.? This is the only time where words speak better than action. I don’t want you to use Shashi Tharoor words into your self-appraisal form, but to have the self esteem added to the task what you have performed.

Please don’t do self-appraisal for the sake of doing it and irrespective of the outcome, use this to do a self-reflection on what you have been doing and how it has helped you to grow and is it still in alignment with your career goal.?
