SELF-ACCOUNTABILITY- A LIFELONG GYROSCOPE

SELF-ACCOUNTABILITY- A LIFELONG GYROSCOPE

Hi partner! How are you today? Now, I might be late to the occasion, but I would like to say to you, “Compliments of the new season!” May this year unfold as your life’s most beautiful adventure. I really missed meeting with you on the pages of this newsletter. May our time together in 2023, be a learning and growth opportunity for us both.

If you remember well, the first four articles of this newsletter revolved around letting go of the victim mindset. I intentionally wanted to exhaust that topic because its entirely important to me that, both you and I realise the significance of owning up our lives, and not delegating neither the responsibility nor the power necessary to turn those lives into exactly what we desire them to be. The mission for this year is still the same: I want to be your bi-weekly reminder that;

“You are the rescue team you have been waiting for! No one else is coming to save you”

I want to encourage you on a bi-weekly basis, to make the same decision I have made for myself. A decision to learn and develop self-accountability as a lifelong habit, that will continually empower every aspect of your life and fuel all your efforts towards creating the life of your dreams.

As I was thinking about what it is I want to say to you in this first article of the year 2023, I couldn’t help but acknowledge how the one thing we can all agree on, about life, is its UNPREDICTABILITY! Both you and I can be sure that, though we have set our plans and goals in motion for the year, things aren’t going to unfold exactly how we have planned them to. We can be sure that there is surely going to be one or two curve balls that life throws our way.

In terms of journeying into the unknown, exposing ourselves to unexpected forces you might liken us to spacecrafts. Now please bear with me, for I’m not in any way a science fanatic but, a simple google search and a brief YouTube video of some guy at the international space station, have led me to believe that I know something about how space crafts use a device called a Gyroscope to keep their balance and to stay on course.

Basically, in spacecrafts, gyroscopes are “inertial reference” devices which sense the slightest change in rate about an axis of rotation, and continually inform the onboard computer when the craft has changed its attitude (direction and pointing). The computer then sends the information to the spacecraft's stabilization device, which then makes corrections. In simpler terms, gyroscopes are the devices responsible for course-correction in space crafts. No matter how far off from its original course, the spacecraft was knocked by unexpected turbulence or obstacles along the way, it can continuously re-calibrate and get back on course, courtesy of the remarkable work performed by the gyroscope.

I believe that the gift of course-correction, is one not only given to space crafts but to us too. Although we can’t always predict what’s going to catch us off guard as we journey through life, we can always trust in our ability to maneuver through those surprises that life throws at us. In the face of all of life’s unpredictability, I’d like to propose that we have a valuable asset at our disposal.

That asset is self-accountability. A foundational attitude and lifelong habit, that permeates every aspect of our lives and influences how we show up every day. Self-accountability, that is not only limited to holding ourselves accountable with regards to our goals but also holding ourselves accountable where our entire lives are concerned. An appreciation that we are answerable about every aspect our lives. Answerable first and foremost to ourselves, before we can be answerable to others in the way we show up and contribute to every inch of society.

I believe that when you center yourself with the knowledge that your life is only in your hands and nobody else’s. When you decide to let that truth, the truth that says you are responsible for creating and designing the life you want, inform every part of you; your thoughts, your emotions, your words, and your actions, you automatically bless yourself with the gift of course correction.

This is because, no matter what happens in your life, choosing to approach every one of your experiences, favorable or not, from a self-accountability standpoint always positions you in your “creator mode” rather than a “victim mode”. Self-accountability infuses you with offense energy rather than defense energy. Instead of being at the mercy of your outside circumstances you leverage your inner landscape, to carve a path for yourself.

Of course, life will never allow that path to be straight, but despite the curves, turns, and blind spots, self-accountability will readily help you to keep course correcting and re-calibrating until you reach your intended destination.

The year has just begun but none of us knows exactly how its going to unfold. We only have visions, goals, and plans. I am therefore inviting you with this article, to entertain the idea of approaching every one of your experiences in 2023, whether expected or not, with the confidence that you too have a gyroscope, you have self-accountability. A foundational attitude and habit, embedded with the functionality to help you position and re-align yourself in the face of life’s unpredictability.

No matter what happens this year, challenge yourself to stay in your creator mode. Stay on the offense. Retain only the energy that allows you to keep charting a path for yourself. Stay flexible and malleable to the flow of life and remember, life’s unpredictability does not only throw what is unfavorable towards us. It equally carries with it great favor and unexpected opportunities. These too, require you to approach them as a creator, having a foundational belief that you have what it takes to create wonders with what you are given.

As you and I have a whole year ahead of us, to help each other in this self-accountability journey, I too just like life, have a couple of surprises lined up to make this journey much more interesting and rewarding for us.

As you would see from next week, I will be rolling out additional content avenues that are intricately connected to the message of this newsletter. This content avenues include a LinkedIn live series titled, “Self-Accountability- The Gyroscope Series”, a TikTok account dedicated to sharing my journey of reclaiming my personal power and lastly, a podcast that revolves around; cultivating self-accountability as a way of life. These content avenues will each roll out a month apart from each other. I hope you are as excited as I am, to see how your whole life can be changed, by this simple act of embracing self-accountability as your gyroscope or course correcting power.

Lastly, as you already know, it’s our habit to end every article with a little reflective assignment to take home with us. So here it is. Please take some time for yourself. Sit with your pen and paper and ponder over these two questions.

?

1.????What kind of life would you like to be accountable for?

2.????How do you intend to adopt and use self-accountability as your Gyroscope?

Till we meet again partner, “STAY IN YOUR CREATOR MODE”
