To select the appropriate agitator design to suit the characteristics of a specific fermentation bacteria, pls care the below points
1. Aerobicity of the microorganism: Aerobic bacteria generally require a higher dissolved oxygen rate, so the agitator design should promote adequate mixing of air and fermentation broth to increase the solubility of oxygen.
2. Shear sensitivity: Some microorganisms are sensitive to shear forces and may be damaged by excessive agitation. In this case, an agitator with less shear force, such as a paddle or propeller agitator, should be selected.
3. Viscosity of the fermentation broth: High-viscosity fermentation broth may require more vigorous agitation to maintain good mixing. Turbine agitators may be more suitable for high-viscosity media due to their high shear force.
4. Bubble dispersion: The agitator design should help disperse the air into small bubbles, increase the gas-liquid contact area, and thus improve the oxygen transfer efficiency.
5. Heat transfer requirements: If the fermentation process generates a lot of heat, the agitator design should help evenly distribute and effectively remove the heat to maintain a stable temperature in the fermenter.

6. Suspended solid particles: For fermentation processes containing solid particles, the agitator should be able to effectively keep the particles suspended in the fermentation liquid to avoid sedimentation.
7. Flow pattern of the agitator: The flow pattern (such as axial flow, radial flow) generated by the agitator should be selected according to the needs of the fermentation process. Axial flow helps macro-mixing, while radial flow is conducive to bubble breakage and improves local mixing efficiency.
8. Agitator material: The material of the agitator should be resistant to chemical corrosion that may be encountered during the fermentation process and should meet hygiene and food safety standards.
9. Size and shape of the agitator: The size and shape of the agitator should match the size of the fermenter to ensure the optimization of mixing efficiency and fluid dynamics in the tank.
10. Number and layout of agitators: Depending on the size and shape of the fermenter, multiple agitators may be required, and their layout should help achieve uniform mixing and avoid dead corners.
