How to select a right Split Core Current Transformer?

  • Ratio: The transformation ratio is the ratio of the primary current (I1) to the secondary current (I2) Mathematically, it can be expressed as: I1/I2 For choosing the primary current Identify the maximum expected range of currents that the CT will encounter and add 20% more to get the CT primary value. It is important to choose the appropriate CT with the correct turns ratio to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
  • VA Burden: VA burden is very important in current transformers because it represents the maximum amount of power that can be handled by the transformer without causing it to overheat or fail.
