Seize the Day and Empower Your Life
It’s amazing how easily we take time for granted. Most of us treat it as if it were an inexhaustible commodity. Despite the constant pressure to deliver on timetables and keep up to date with the constant flow of bills and daily pressures, most people drift through life as if they were going to live forever. But, if we’re going to confront the inevitability of our own mortality, it’s a simple tenet of life that none of us are going to be around forever. Putting it more bluntly, the clock is ticking for all of us.
Time is in many ways our most precious commodity. It’s the most valuable coin that we possess so we need to ensure that we spend it wisely. Once spent, it never comes back. That’s the nature of time. Don’t waste your time in anger, regrets, worries, and grudges. Life is too short to be unhappy.
― Roy T. Bennett
When the hammer comes down and we’re confronted by the harsh reality of our own mortality, or by the loss of a loved one, this is a moment of truth when many of us get the wakeup call to think more carefully about how we’re spending the limited currency of our lives. This is when we confront the uncomfortable truth that we are not immortal. But it can also provide us with the motivation to take action, to take advantage of offers, invitations and opportunities, to make the very most of every moment that’s been granted to us.
Dealing with loss is always a painful event that touches us deeply and leaves a permanent mark upon our emotional landscape. Some losses are destined to leave an indelible imprint upon our lives. Some losses are not diminished by the passage of time. They live within us for the rest of our days. But they’re also a reminder to seize the day. They’re a fearsome emotional challenge to our daily habits and complacency and an uncompromising demand that we wake up and make the most of the time that is still available to us.
Time is a created thing. To say 'I don't have time,' is like saying, 'I don't want to.’ ― Lao Tzu
This is more than a wakeup call for your work, goals and ambitions. It’s equally a wakeup call for the things you most often take for granted. It’s a reminder that the precious time you devote to friends and family deserves the fullest recognition.
It’s a way of choosing to appreciate the richness of life at every level.
It’s an invitation to appreciate the magical moment to hold someone’s hand at sunset. To cherish a smile across a table whilst you enjoy the food and the company you’re sharing. Noticing the beauty of a tree or a flower. Being present in the moment and giving thanks just for being alive. Cherishing loved ones and never neglecting an opportunity to remind them how much you love them. Taking a moment to offer a gesture of kindness and support to make a positive difference to someone’s life. Choosing to remain calm and centred rather than wasting your precious time and energy in anger or fear. Learning to be at peace with yourself. And choosing to make your life a celebration, having fun, having adventures and enjoying your life to the full. Right now. Because you might not have enough tomorrows to do the things that are truly important to you.
Those who make the worst use of their time are the first to complain of its brevity.
― Jean de La Bruyère
Life tends to be more fulfilling when we feel that we’re making a difference. So, find ways today to make a positive difference - for yourself as well as for others. Get the right balance in your life.
The deepest scars we carry are rooted in the bitterness of regret. Make a commitment to do things that will ensure you don’t have any regrets. No more postponements. Life is not waiting to be lived tomorrow. It’s waiting to be lived and experienced today. Open your heart to love. Make peace with the past and let it go. Forever. Move lightly through life without the baggage of past mistakes, failures, regrets or guilt to weigh you down. When you consider the brevity and absurdity of so much of your life, the best response is a hearty laugh and a deep appreciation of the things that truly matter.
The quality of the few years that are allotted to us in this life is best defined in terms of two simple concepts. Did we increase our wisdom and our understanding? That’s a very helpful measure of our ability to grow, progress and expand our capacity to understand the nature of ourselves and our fellow travelers on the great pathway of life. The second area to consider as a valid measure of how we’ve justified our presence on this planet is to consider how we’ve increased our capacity to love.
You may delay, but time will not.
― Benjamin Franklin
These two areas touch the heart of our existence and reveal the source of the greatest benefits that we can derive from this life. When we deny this wonderful power in our lives, problems abound. This is so significant that if we could describe one singular corrosive source of pain and regret in our days on earth, it must surely be the times when we withheld, withdrew or denied our love to others. Especially when they needed it the most. When we’re in tune with this magnificent array of benefits, our lives become deeply enriched on every level. It’s the fuel that powers our personal fulfilment and a powerful way to make a difference to the lives of others.
Wisdom breaks the bonds of our understanding and takes our awareness beyond the narrow confines of our ego. Wisdom calls upon us to seek a fuller understanding and develop a fuller awareness of ourselves and the world around us. It seeks to express the deeper nature of everything and free us from the limitations of our imperfect beliefs and prejudices.?

Let’s use this precious moment to acknowledge the fact that our time is limited and our days are numbered. Rather than regretting how little is left to us, let us celebrate the gift of life by treasuring the time that remains. Seize the day! Open your heart to happiness. Make absolutely sure that your plans are truly worthwhile. Consider your goals and your motivation for devoting precious time to activities that satisfy your criteria for a truly worthwhile existence. Don’t waste another single day being stressed, unhappy and unfulfilled. Every day is precious. Make it count. Make absolutely certain that the day lives up to your expectations. Dedicate a few moments to expand your wisdom and increase your capacity to love. And your life will flourish and blossom in ways you couldn’t possibly imagine.
And finally, a gentle reminder from a singularly brilliant mind.
Time is an illusion.
― Albert Einstein
