Trade Mission to South Korea with The Global Business Innovation Programme
?This month, Seetru’s Edward Flint had the opportunity to travel to South Korea through Innovate UK’s Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP). During his week there he had the privilege of engaging with industry leaders, experts, and potential collaborators, as well as visiting a range of advanced hydrogen facilities alongside twelve UK companies to delve into South Korea's ambitious Hydrogen Economy Roadmap.
?
Why South Korea?
With aims to dominate the global hydrogen market by 2040, South Korea has set impressive goals, including producing 6.2 million fuel cell electric vehicles, deploying 41 thousand hydrogen buses, establishing 1200 refueling stations, and supplying 15GW of fuel cells for power generation.
As of February 2023, South Korea had made significant strides, introducing 30,000 hydrogen vehicles, 231 hydrogen charging stations, and 893.97 MW of fuel cells. However, challenges remain in meeting greenhouse gas reduction targets.
?
Engagements and Collaborations
Seetru alongside representatives from twelve UK companies participated in this trade mission. The diverse range of companies offers products ranging from safety valves and pressure vessels to innovative solutions like bacteria converting CO2 to H2!
?
Exploring South Korea's Hydrogen Landscape
The itinerary was packed with insightful visits, starting with the British Embassy in Seoul where everyone was given a presentation by KETEP (Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning) about South Korea’s 2019 Hydrogen Economy Roadmap. The trip also included a visit to Samsung Heavy Industries, participation at the Korea Eureka Day, and a day at Ulsan Technopark. These visits included presentations, B2B meetings, and exposure to cutting-edge developments in hydrogen fuel cells and water electrolysis.
Further insights into South Korea's commitment to hydrogen, included a visit to POSCO Energy demonstrating their initiatives in Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOEC), as well as visiting Pohang Technopark where they showed their ambitious mission to create a hydrogen city.
Ed also had the opportunity to visit KATECH's (Korea Automotive Technology Institute) efueling research centre. We saw their newly delivered Hyundai hydrogen bus and witnessed their advanced refuelling operations.
?
Conclusions
Ed commented, "South Korea is a beautiful country, with friendly people and fantastic food!" It is clear that South Korea is very focused on developing the hydrogen industry and wants to be world leaders in this field, highlighting the opportunities in South Korea for valves in the hydrogen industry.
Thank you to Innovate UK and everyone involved in making this experience valuable, informative, and very well organised!

Visit from Society of Maritime Industries
Did you know that Seetru Limited is a member of the Society of Maritime Industries (SMI)? This association offers an array of opportunities for collaboration and engagement within the maritime engineering business community.
The Society of Maritime Industries plays a pivotal role, both internationally and in the UK, by providing a diverse range of activities that contribute to the growth and development of the maritime engineering sector. This year, with the invaluable support of SMI and the Department for Business & Trade (DBT), Seetru has participated in prominent maritime events worldwide.
In 2023 we participated in the UK Trade Maritime Mission to Turkey, followed by our presence at Sea Asia in Singapore, and Kormarine in South Korea. We continued our engagement at the SMI networking event at the UK Pavilion during Nor-Shipping.
In just a week, we are excited to join the SMI networking event at the UK Pavilion in Marintec, China. If you will be attending the event please get in touch, Larita will be pleased to meet you there!
Last week Helen Stephen, Business Development Director at SMI, visited Seetru to deepen our collaboration and explore potential business opportunities in the maritime sector. The focus of our discussions centered around the impact of Green Technology on shipping markets and the ongoing fuel transition. As the industry gears towards meeting Maritime Decarbonisation Goals by 2050, suppliers of marine equipment face the challenge of producing innovative products that align with new sustainable marine fuels such as ammonia, methanol, biofuel, LNG, and hydrogen.
The meeting with Helen Stephen was exceptionally insightful, providing us with valuable information and perspectives. Seetru Engineering Services Training Milestones
This month’s SES feature focuses on highlighting our commitment to continuous improvement, safety, and professional development. Read our recent training milestones below!
Two x 2-Day Training Events Successfully Completed
SES with the assistance of Lee Moore, provided two intensive 2-day training events for one of our external customers hosted at our Stockton site. These sessions provide our customers with expertise in PSV maintenance and repair, enabling their own technicians to be trained and qualified to carry out work themselves. We have received positive feedback so far and hope to continue the success with several more courses in the pipeline at both Stockton and Bristol.
If you would like to find out more about the PSV training courses, we offer get in touch with one of our team at:

Tru-Tester Training for PSV Maintenance
Following the introduction of our SES team in last month’s newsletter, we would like to congratulate two of our SES PSV trainees who have completed their initial Tru-Tester training! The remainder of our trainees will follow very shortly. This specialised training equips our team with the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out in-situ safety valve testing, a time and cost-saving way to test safety and relief valves in-situ, eliminating the need to remove the valve from the system or shut the system down.
Find out more about The Seetru Tru-test? system here:
Online Training Program
As part of the continuous professional development of our employees, some of our SES technicians have recently completed a comprehensive online training program. This is an ongoing process, and all of our technicians will complete this requirement shortly. This initiative includes approximately 10 different courses for each technician, covering a range of topics such as asbestos awareness, manual handling, working in confined spaces, and more. This diversified approach ensures that our team is not only proficient in technical aspects but also well-versed in critical safety and procedural considerations.
As we continue to prioritise the development of our team, these training initiatives reflect our team’s commitment to excellence, safety, and continuous improvement!
